SPENCER COUNTY MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS GUIDELINES FOR JUNE 2020
Welcome Back! As we prepare to begin sports at Spencer Middle, we will need to understand and follow the specific guidelines that KHSAA and Governor Beshear have mandated for this phased startup. Please remember that these guidelines are not a choice, they are mandatory for all. Worst case scenario would be that a student or coach would contract COVID due to our staff not adhering to the rules in place; in this scenario, the legal responsibility would fall back on all of us at SCMS. We will need to meet with you before any practice or meeting takes place to provide cleaning supplies, masks…, again this is not an optional meeting. Thanks to our coaches and staff for all that you do; I know that you will proceed with the interest of everyone involved as we begin an exciting time of starting back to a bit of normalcy. Scott Noel June 1st to 14th Coaches may meet/talk to players. No practices or conditioning. Groups are limited to 10. Coaches and players are required to wear masks if in-person meetings are taking place. June 14th to 28th Softball, Baseball, Cheer, Dance, Cross Country, and Golf may begin practice with the following limitations. Group size is limited to 10 players and one coach. Locker rooms will not be available at this time. Masks are to be worn by coaches, and players are required to wear a mask if not participating. Basketball, Football, Volleyball and Soccer may begin physical conditioning with the following limitations: group size is limited to 10 players and one coach. Locker rooms will not be available at this time. Masks are to be worn by coaches, and players are required to wear a mask if not participating. * No scrimmages, competitions or full contact at this time. June 29th-? Softball, Baseball, Cheer, Dance, Cross Country, and Golf may begin regional competitions adhering to social distancing guidelines and limiting attendance to 50 at the event. Basketball, Football, Volleyball and Soccer may begin full practice with the following limitations. 10 players per group with one coach limiting the frequency of scrimmages and competitions with limited contact: masks are to be worn by coaches, and players are required to wear a mask if not participating. Good day Grizzly Family,
I want to again thank everyone for your efforts and patience during this trying time. It's truly been synergistic, together we've done it! Our final day for the school year is May 15. Therefore, the next two weeks packets that are available for pickup are for makeup work and summer reading. We thought this would be a great time to allow our students to catch-up if behind and/or get ahead on the their summer reading requirements for our 6th and 7th grade students. 8th grade will be going to High School. Click here for our final packet: 6th Grade Final Packet 7th Grade Final Packet As you can see below we have planned a "Sidewalk Sendoff" to close the year. This will be a time that we can give out awards & promotion certificates, wave buy to our students, etc. while social distancing. Yearbooks will be given out at the beginning of school next year and I will communicate later on when we will be cleaning out lockers. Any questions, feel free to email me at: [email protected] . Good Monday Grizzly Family,
Having three daughters at three different schools here in Spencer County, I can assure that I understand the challenge of getting all this coursework completed and submitted. It can be very overwhelming at times. We do not want to create anymore anxiety than we all are currently experiencing in this unprecedented time. The week 5 & 6 packet is available for pickup in the SCMS main entrance corridor. Nothing has changed for our process of pickup/drop off here. You can drop off weeks 1-4 when you pickup the current packet, or you can scan and email completed work to myself or your teachers. Electronic copies for all weeks can be downloaded at our school NTI site: https://www.spencer.kyschools.us/SCMS/News/1701#sthash.UG7vJCgx.dpbs , or below: 6th Grade Packets Weeks 5 & 6.pdf 7th Grade Packets Weeks 5 & 6.pdf 8th Grade Packet Weeks 5 & 6.pdf Advanced Drama Signup for next year As we are getting close to the end of the year, this would be the usual time to have the kiddos sign up for classes. Generally, we ask students to sign up for advanced drama for the upcoming year in class...however this year is different. We have created a google form to sign up for advanced drama next year. Please complete it for your son/daughter if they are interested. https://forms.gle/ZYySvQsJPtYWQn4T8 A Note from Nurse Dippel Hi Grizzlies! I sure miss everyone and miss seeing your smiling faces! Just about 1 month ago, I was wishing Spring Break would hurry up and get here. Oh how I wish I could rewind time. Never would I believe that we would now be face to face with Covid 19 and a world Pandemic. I hope you are remaining positive in these uncertain times. I am hopeful we will all be back together soon. In the meantime, please, please do your part by being healthy at home. Also, remember to wash your hands often, for at least 20 seconds. If you are feeling anxious or worried, please reach out to your trusted adult and talk about your feelings. Practice some mindfulness activities you have learned from Ms. Demyan, take walks and enjoy some outside time. Please know that this too shall pass and we will all be together once again. I miss you all!! Go Grizzlies!! ❤️ Nurse Kathy God Bless and Stay Safe, MM Hello Grizzly Family,
I hope everyone had a blessed Easter Weekend. Just a quick reminder that if you picked up a packet last week, that is a two week packet and covers this week as well. You will NOT have to pickup a packet this week. These can be returned anytime, however our next instructional two week packet will be available next Monday here in the main entrance corridor, and I will also be sending it out by electronic document and updating our NTI Instructional School site as well at https://www.spencer.kyschools.us/SCMS/News/1701#sthash.fgtTS4ai.dpbs . As always, stay safe and God Bless! MM Good Evening SCMS Family,
Hopefully, everyone has had a restful and safe Spring Bring. I know most of you have been following Gov. Bashear's daily discussions at 5pm. The decision has been made to extend NTI educational days at least until May 1. Mr. Adams sent out a very detailed email on Saturday regarding food distribution. Regarding educational packets, I want to encourage everyone that can to utilize and print their packets at home from the following link: https://www.spencer.kyschools.us/SCMS/News/1701 . This link will be updated periodically. Packets for week 3 and 4 can be downloaded now. The next distribution will occur on Tue., April 21. Packets can also be picked up and dropped off at the SCMS main entrance corridor daily from 8am-2:30pm. All other doors will be locked to support social distancing and follow the Superintendent and Gov's recommendations. Many of our teachers are utilizing online platforms, so you may get further detailed emails from your child's teachers or find directions in the packets. Any and all questions can be emailed to: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], or [email protected] . "Roughest waters make the best sailors." Thanks to all our parents, teachers, drivers, instructional support, & EVERYONE! It's been all hands on deck and we'll come out of this closer and better than ever. Feeding children, educating them the best we can given the circumstances, and keeping everyone as safe as possible are our priorities.
***If you need to checkout a Chromebook device, you can do so by stopping by SCMS and asking or contacting [email protected]. *** Reminder: Week 1 packets can be returned today by bus drivers at food drop off or at the SCMS Main Office. Week 2 packets are being delivered today by bus drivers at food drop off or can be picked up in the SCMS main office, any packets missed SHOULD be delivered tomorrow. Week 2 packets will be turned in after Spring Break starting April 7th. Week 2 electronic document packets can be downloaded below: 6th Grade NTI Week 2 7th Grade NTI Week 2 8th Grade NTI Week 2 God Bless and be safe! MM We are in the process of delivering food and academic packets to 3000 Spencer County students as we speak. If you do not receive your packet today, you SHOULD receive that tomorrow as more copies are being made and logistics are being worked out. Packets are available at the SCMS main office each day from 7am to 3pm. If you do not receive a packet and you are unable to pick up a packet, please email me your address and a good time for drop off at [email protected]. I'm also attaching an electronic copy to this correspondence for your convenience. All teachers are available by email if assistance is needed in anyway. Again, thanks to everyone for your patience and understanding as we work diligently to take care of our kiddos.
Grade 6 NTI Week 1 Packet Grade 7 NTI Week 1 Packet Grade 8 NTI Week 1 Packet MM As I explained in my earlier correspondence, everyone will receive a weekly grade level assignment packet with lunch deliveries tomorrow. For those that have access to a computer and printer I am attaching an electronic version of these NTI packets for your convenience. Each packet has related arts assignments and there has been no schedule changes at this point and will not be until further notice. So students are to complete their current schedules courses. As always, thank you for your patience and cooperation.
Grade 6 NTI Week 1 Packet Grade 7 NTI Week 1 Packet Grade 8 NTI Week 1 Packet MM Dear Grizzly Family, Scary times, but together we will be there for each other and we will be resilient in getting past this. It's going to be okay. As Superintendent Adams explained Friday in his letter to all stakeholders, we are taking every precaution possible to keep everyone safe and healthy during this unprecedented time. We are utilizing 9 non-traditional school days (NTI). What that means is that we are doing our best to continue instruction, albeit remotely. Although nothing can replace teacher-student interaction, this is simply the most responsible move as recommended by our governor. Our administration met with all faculty and staff on Friday to roll out our plan. Teacher's are working as we speak on grade level student packets to send to each home. Those will be completed today. Each day lunch will be delivered to all students and our plan is to deliver all "Week 1" packets tomorrow with lunch. These packets will be returned one week from today on Monday, March 23, with lunches and you will then receive your "Week 2" packet. Lunches and packets will be brought to your door, however if no one is home, food and packets WILL NOT be left. In this situation or if you live outside the Spencer County school district you WILL need to make arrangements to pick up your packets in the main office here at SCMS any day between 7am and 3pm. Any questions and/or concerns please feel free to email me at [email protected]. I want to personally thank our bus drivers, support staff, school nurses, family resource, etc. for their selfless work during this time. Our top priority is the health and safety of all our people, especially students. Please practice social distancing and if possible, stay in and by all means stay safe. MM |
