We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Everyone can BE PROACTIVE this cold and flu season. Your School Health Nurse encourages everyone to be good hand washers, get plenty of rest, eat right and stay hydrated. Please do not eat/drink after anyone, keep hands away from mouth, nose and eyes. It is not to late to get a Flu shot. Please encourage your student to inform you if they are not feeling well. Parents/Guardians are the BEST decision makers to keep their child home from school when ill, call the Doctor if needed, and even give over-the-counter cold medicines prior to coming to school. Stay healthy Grizzlies!! Habit 2 – At Spencer Middle, we try to BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND! Semester 1 has ended and report cards will be sent home Jan. 9th. No school on MLK Jan. 16. Habit 3 – Congratulations, to the following students for PUTTING FIRST THINGS FIRST and scoring the highest in their respective grade levels on the MAP – Winter Assessment: Math (Stephen Perry, Richard Walker, Nicholas Sea) & Reading (Kaylee Monroe, Grant Evans, Jason Combs, & Logan Peters). Habit 4 – Ms. Hinton, and the SCMS Gifted and Talented Program is THINKING WIN-WIN! Check out the most recent newsletter (attached). Habit 5 – We have several students SEEKING FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD by taking a foreign language at SCMS through Edgenuity. Kuddos to: Spanish (Zachary Cravens, Devin Heckert, Kontessa Muncy, Devan Cole, Morgan Schneider, & Grayce Stewart), French (Trenten Husband, & Ashley Denney), Latin (Joshua Lydic, & Brianna Ordway), & German (Nicholas Gray, & Leila Howe). Habit 6 – Let’s SYNERGIZE! Are you a Grandparent (or any relative) Raising Grandchildren? If so, please join the Family Resource & Youth Service Centers for resources, information, fun & support at the Spencer County Extension Office - 100 Oak Tree Way (off of Hwy. 44 near SCES & SCMS) on the 2nd & 4th Tuesdays from 12:30 - 2:00 p.m. Meeting dates: 1/10 & 1/24; 2/14 & 2/28; 3/14 & 3/28; 4/11 & 4/25 and 5/9 & 5/23. Refreshments provided. For more information or questions, please call 477-3222 or 477-3202. Habit 7 – Come out and SHARPEN THE SAW this week – Boys’ Basketball at home vs Bardstown on Thursday. Good luck to our Academic Team at the District Competition on January 17.
