The third nine weeks ended March 11, and report cards were sent home TODAY, March 18. Spring Break is March 29 - April 8. Currently, our last day of school is scheduled for May 21. They won FIRST PLACE along with BEST ENSEMBLE with their performance of “I Never Saw Another Butterfly”. We are very proud of this group! Everyone is invited to tonight's Spring Choral Concert, led by Ms. Marissa Pollock. The SCMS Advanced Art Classes will be hosting their annual Student Operated Restaurant Fundraiser April 20th 4:00pm-7:00pm between performances of Little Women musical. Enjoy Dinner & a Show that day by dining at either Noodles & Doodles or Da Vinci's Ristorante. Attached are MENU and PRICE for both restaurants and a reservation form for Da Vinci's Ristorante. The students are looking forward to serving their community and hope to see you there! It's Career Week at SCMS. Career Day at SCMS will be on Thursday, March 28th. In the past, this is one of our favorite days of the year, and I'm sure this year will be just as fun! We welcome over 60 SC grads to come speak to our students about the importance of education and career pathways. This day is part of Career Week at SCMS. Students will also go on college visits and participate in a virtual reality store. If you are interested in leading a session please contact [email protected] . The middle school track team competed in our first outdoor meet of the season. We have several new athletes this year that did awesome in their first meet ever! Lexington Christian Academy hosted over 1000 athletes! Our boys team finished 7th. Top 10 finishers are as follows: 100m hurdles Wade Hutt 1st place, 100m dash Wade Hutt 1st place, Marquis Powell 9th place,1600m run Casey DeSilvey 10th place, 4x100m relay (Marquis Powell, James Hall, Tommy Eisenback & Chase Semones) 6th place, 300m hurdles Wade Hutt 1st place, 200m dash Marquis Powell 10th place, Long Jump Wade Hutt 1st place, TurboJav James Hall 3rd place, Marquis Powell 4th place. We are very proud of all our boys and girls. Our next meet is Wednesday at Western Hills HS in Frankfort. Last Friday, we hosted the 5th Annual Student Leadership Summit. Over 100 students participated in group activities, lunch from Fazoli's, and learned powerful lessons on leadership. PAWS Leaders, Sources of Strength, and Lighthouse Students attended. Thanks to Ms. Jacobson and Ms. Butler for organizing this amazing event! The SCMS International Travel Club is proud to announce Greece as our destination for the summer of 2020! We will visit the Acropolis in Athens, the site of the Oracle at Delphi, visit the Battlefield at Thermopylae, and many other locations students learn about in 7th grade Social Studies. Families interested in learning more about this trip are invited to an informational meeting on Tuesday, March 26th at 6:00 PM in the Art Room. Tomorrow SCMS will perform it's final Peer Learning Lab of the year. This experience will be led by Ms. Michelle Gross and co-facilitated by Ms. Mary Lynn Martin and Ms. Mandy Howie. The focus will be on Math, however all teachers will benefit as we observe and discuss best practices for teaching and student learning. Ms. Gross has also been nominated by her peers as the 2019 Campbellsville Teacher of Excellence award winner. This is her second time winning the award. MAP Testing this week at SCMS! 8th grade MAP is Monday, 7th Grade is Tuesday, and 6th Grade is Wednesday. Parents please remind your son/daughter that MAP scores are utilized in developing their educational plan. Eat breakfast and give a great effort! Hello March! Thankfully, clocks spring forward this weekend. The third nine weeks ends March 11, and report cards will be sent home on March 18. Spring Break will be March 29 - April 8. Shout out to Wade Hutt! Wade, won the indoor state long jump this weekend. He placed 2nd in both the 55m & 400m! Everyone's invited to our Spring band concert on March 6, at 6:30, in the gymnasium. Our students are working extremely hard as they prepare for the annual KMEA Assessment Concert on March 13-14 at North Oldham HS. The Annual Spencer County All-Choir Concert will be held March 9, at 11 am in the SCMS gymnasium. Everyone's invited to attend this district-wide event which showcases our extremely talented students. We just wrapped up five days of Peer Writing Labs, as we now begin to look ahead to our next learning opportunity, our Math Peer Learning Lab on March 19, periods 2, 3, & 4, from 8:40-11:20. We will pre-brief during 2nd, observe during 3rd, and debrief during 4th. Ms. Howie and Ms. Martin will co-facilitate, Ms. Cindy will provide coverage, and Ms. Gross has and will be sharing our updated Math Learning Walk document. There will be a District Learning Walk tomorrow at SCMS. Administrator's from across the district will visit classrooms, speak with students, and look for best practices. This occurs once per semester in each of our buildings and the academic dialogue is invaluable. We look forward to a great day of learning and growing.
