Hello Grizzly Family,
Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year. I pray that each of you have had a blessed summer. I am very proud, both personally and professionally, to be a part of our “Distinguished” school district. Our leadership team just returned from Washington D.C. While there SCMS was honored as only one of three schools in Kentucky to be named a National Schools to Watch recipient. What a great honor for our community! In 2016, SCMS ranked 25th out of 334 middle schools in KY. As we anxiously await 2018 scores, we fully expect to be named a “Distinguished” middle school for a fourth consecutive year. Our great success can only be attributed to a special synergy between parents, families, teachers and students; we are truly all on the same team. We would like to invite all of our incoming sixth graders to attend our annual Boost Camp, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of this week. We ask that your son/daughter attend one of these three days from 9am to 12pm, to become more acclimated with our building, meet their teacher's, and practice getting into their lockers. For more information email [email protected]. Sixth grade open house will be Monday, August 6, from 6-8pm. During this time, students will receive their class schedules and drop off their class supplies to their homeroom teachers. Click here for a copy of the sixth grade supply list: 6th Grade Supply List 2018-2019.pdf . Our returning 7th and 8th grade students will receive their schedules at their open house Wednesday, August 1, from 5-6:30. See you guys then. At SCMS, we offer a various assortment of class electives such as: Technology, Art, Drama, Dance, Music, Chorus, Career Explorations, and Spanish. After the regular school day ends, the educational opportunities only continue with our “Grizzlies Beyond the Bell” program. GBB provides a two hour block Monday through Thursday, which consists of a snack, homework help tutoring, and over two dozen clubs and organizations. Beyond the Bell offers something for everyone. Whether you’re interested in Tae-Kwon-Doe, Lego Robotics, Field Hockey, Future Health Careers, Engineering, or Photography, just to name a few, we have something for you. Superintendent Adams even sponsors our weekly Archery Club! For more information on GBB email [email protected]. Our Parent, Teacher, Student Organization (PTSO) President Dee Thompson encourages all parents to get involved at SCMS through PTSO. You can contact her at [email protected] for more information. Our school and district website is a great source for back to school information like: supply lists, teacher contact information, school breakfast and lunch menus, calendars, etc. On a more personal note, each week I send out my Principal’s Notes as correspondence to all community stakeholders. If you would like to receive this mailer, feel free to email me at [email protected]. Again, welcome to SCMS and the 2018-2019 school year. Go Grizzlies!
