To: All SCMS Stakeholders
We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Parents and students interested in participating on the Academic Team next year can BE PROACTIVE and tryout on May 1st (4-6pm) in the SCMS Media Center. This is for incoming 6th graders and current 7th and 8th graders. Habit 2 – At Spencer County Middle, we BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND! 4th Qtr. Mid-Term Reports will be sent home April 28th. KPREP State Test – May 9-15. 8th Grade “Belle” Trip is May 17th. 6th/7th grade awards day is April 19th at 9:30am. 8th grade awards and graduation is May 23 at 9:30am. Habit 3 – Congratulations, to our very own Ms. Ashley McGaughey, as she PUTS FIRST THINGS FIRST every day. Ashley, was recognized as 1 of 8 Kentucky Middle School Teacher of the Year Finalists and will be honored in Frankfort in May. Another reason SCMS is the best! Habit 4 – Family Resource is THINKING WIN-WIN! Parenting 101 classes are starting April 17th. There will be 4 - 2 hour parenting sessions with limited availability. Topics include: Social Media, Peer Pressure, Substance Abuse, etc. while empowering parents and teaching strategies to raise incredible teenagers. If interested contact: [email protected]. Habit 5 – Commissioner Stephen Pruitt will be SEEKING FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD by visiting Spencer County Middle School on Tuesday, April 14th. We can’t wait to show off our awesome school district and community! Habit 6 – Let’s SYNERGIZE at Dinner & a Show this April 22nd. Advanced Art Classes invite you to join us for dinner in one of our Student Operated Restaurants. Saturday April 22nd between the Drama Dept.'s performances of "Annie". Join us either at Noodles & Doodles OR Da Vinci's Ristorante (the new exclusive experience available by reservation only). Please see attached flyer pages for menu & prices & directions for securing reservations to Da Vinci's. Thanks for Helping to Send the SCMS Art students on a field trip to Berea College. Habit 7 – Thanks to everyone who came out to SHARPEN THE SAW this week! Kudos to Ms. Edelen and Grizzly Chorus 8th grade on Proficient Recognition and our 6th and 7th graders were DISTINGUISHED! Respectfully, Matt Mercer Principal SCMS
