To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Reminder: Parents and students can BE PROACTIVE and follow me (@MrMercerSCMS) on twitter to stay up today date with daily SCMS happenings. Habit 2 – At Spencer County Middle, we BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND! 4th Qtr. Mid-Term Reports will be sent home April 28th. No School for students – Spring Break on April 1-10. KPREP State Test – May 9-15. Habit 3 –SCMS’ Student Lighthouse PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST on March 24th hosting our 2nd Annual Student Leadership Summit. The day consisted of team-building activities for over 100 Spencer County student participants. Big Thanks to Lt. Governor Jenean Hampton for delivering the days Keynote Address. Habit 4 – SCMS Family Resource is THINKING WIN-WIN! Parenting 101 classes are starting April 17th. There will be 4 - 2 hour parenting sessions with limited availability. Topics include: Social Media, Peer Pressure, Substance Abuse, etc. while empowering parents and teaching strategies to raise incredible teenagers. If interested contact: [email protected]. Habit 5 – We are SEEKING FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD. This is Career Week at Spencer Middle. Monday – Math Ag. Day & SCHS Jr.’s/Sr.’s will be speaking to students during 5th period, Tuesday – 8th Grade Campbellsville College campus visit, Wednesday – Reality Fair, Thursday – Career Day & PAWS Meetings, Friday – School-wide On Demand Assessment. Habit 6 – Let’s SYNERGIZE at Dinner & a Show this April 22nd. Advanced Art Classes invite you to join us for dinner in one of our Student Operated Restaurants. Saturday April 22nd between the Drama Dept.'s performances of "Annie". Join us either at Noodles & Doodles OR Da Vinci's Ristorante (the new exclusive experience available by reservation only). Please see attached flyer pages for menu & prices & directions for securing reservations to Da Vinci's. Thanks for Helping to Send the SCMS Art students on a field trip to Berea College. Habit 7 – Thanks to everyone who came out to SHARPEN THE SAW this week! Congratulations, Grizzly Vballers on winning the Bronze Conference Tournament vs OKH. Kudos to track school record setters: AJ Basham – High Jump 5’10”, Tori Manley – Discuss 54’2”, Wade Hutt – 100m Hurdles 18.85 & 300m 52.03, & Kellan Wade – Shot Put 34’2” & Discuss 89’05”. Team members are: Jack Kennedy, JD Brown, Rico Walker, & Johnathon Antonelli. Mr. Antonelli, has also qualified for the State level National Geography Bee for a chance atNationals in Washington D.C.
