We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Students can BE PROACTIVE by studying for their Semester Exams this week. Their will also be a school-wide On Demand Writing done on Friday Morning. 2nd quarter report cards will be sent home on January 11. A very useful tool for parents is the Infinite Campus App; where you can check grades and receive push notifications daily. Habit 2 – Please BEGAN WITH THE END IN MIND and drop students off in the car rider line each morning. We have some parents parking & allowing students to walk over, which can be dangerous! Habit 3 – Ms. Gabbard and the media center are PUTTING FIRST THINGS FIRST by teaming up with both the art and drama departments for a fun night of shopping, dinner, and a show; more information about discounts & incentives to come! The Bookfair will be open to students Dec. 14-18. Habit 4 – SCMS is THINKING WIN-WIN in recognizing this week’s “Grizzly Heroes”: Micah McCarthy, Cienna Paquette, Zachariah Dana, Trenton Estridge, Dylan Wiehebrink, & Hayden Detrich. Faculty “Paw on the Back” goes to Mike Phillips & Amanda Butler. Habit 5 – Huge thanks to Vonda Martin and Family Youth Service for SEEKING FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD by providing backpack buddies to students in need. If you are interested in getting food and supplies for your family, please email [email protected] . Habit 6 – The library media center would like to SYNERGIZE with the Spencer County community by sponsoring The Great Bedtime Story Pajama Drive. We will be collecting new pajama sets (top and bottom) in all sizes (newborn to adult) along with new or gently used books to give to children in need. Donations can be made through December 18th in the library! Habit 7 – Thanks to everyone that came out to SHARPEN THE SAW by attending our Christmas Band Concert, Drama Dept.’s “Best Christmas Pageant” production, the Art Dept.’s Spaghetti Dinner, and Monday night’s Chorus Concert. We are blessed to have Ms. Shipley, Ms. Stampfer, Ms. Steege & Ms. Larue. Respectfully, Matt Mercer Principal SCMS

We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Students can BE PROACTIVE by turning assignments timely as we only have 8 days until Christmas. 2nd quarter Mid-term reports were sent home on November 24th. A very useful tool for parents is the Infinite Campus App; where you can check grades and receive push notifications daily. Habit 2 – Congratulations to twelve SCMS Band members who BEGAN WITH THE END IN MIND over the weekend in making All District Honor Band: Victoria Worley, Sarah Stine, Sierra Knapper, Tyler Moehrke, Kyle Hughes, Emily Priddy, Calvin Sosebee, Connor Strothman, Sierra Richards, Pandora Booth, Allie Roberts, Josh Dunkelberger. Habit 3 – PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST and Join us for some holiday shopping at the Scholastic Bookfair's VIP Opening on Saturday, Dec. 12th! The library will be teaming up with both the art and drama departments for a fun night of shopping, dinner, and a show; more information about discounts and incentives to come! The Bookfair will be open to students during the school day December 14-18. Habit 4 – The SCMS Academic Team was THINKING WIN-WIN over the past week as they competed in the 6th Grade Showcase. Our students finished 3rd overall and 2nd in quick recall. Jack Kennedy, finished 1st overall in Social Studies & just missed making the state’s top 10 students list of over 300! Habit 5 – Thanks to everyone that supported Winterfest this year. We made $13,000 dollars & $2,000 more than last year! In SEEKING FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD we recognize the need for more student technology – so every penny raised goes towards Chromebooks for Kids! This brings our total to 210 Chromebooks and seven wireless carts. Thanks to all! Habit 7 – Come out and support the A/H Dept. & SHARPEN THE SAW! Ms. Stampfer & the Grizzly Band will be performing their annual Holiday Band Concert tonight at 6:30. Ms. Steege & the Drama Dept. are running the “Best Christmas Pageant Play” Dec. 10-13 with the Art Dept. serving their spaghetti dinner from 4-8pm on the 13th. The annual Christmas Chorus concert is Dec. 14th at 7. Respectfully, Matt Mercer Principal SCMS |
