We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Remind students to BE PROACTIVE turning in class work and missed assignments; as the end of the 1st Nine weeks is quickly approaching (October 9th) with report cards coming home October 16th. Habit 2 – Ms. Larue and the SCMS Advanced Art students will BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND on October 3, as they attend the 58th Annual St. James Court Art Show in Louisville. Click here for more info: http://www.stjamescourtartshow.com/ Habit 3 – SCMS student Jeremiah Potter, chose to PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST by practicing High School level music in preparation for his audition with the Louisville Orchestra – Saxophone Chamber Ensemble. We are very proud to announce that Jeremiah has been accepted for this prestigious position! Habit 4 – We were THINKING WIN-WIN at Parent Involvement Night, as over 200 parents joined us for an evening of food, fun, and activities sponsored by our G/T program. Academic dialogue between parents and teachers is always a win-win. Habit 5 – Every parent may SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD by reviewing student Individualized Learning Plans (ILP’s). Each student has taken this ‘interest inventory’, which assists students in selecting clubs, classes, and college/career decisions. Please contact SCMS Assistant Principal, Erin Demyan, for more information. Habit 6 – SCMS, University of Louisville Dental Schools, Louisville Water Co., and local dentists will SYNERGIZE on October 2, to provide Smile Kentucky screenings to every 6th grade student. A 30 minute dental education will also be provided in Ms. Brown and Ms. Parnell’s classes. Habit 7 – Come out, SHARPEN THE SAW, and support our Grizzly Band & Choir. The first Chorus concert of the year will begin at 7pm on October 6th, and the first Band Concert will be on October 9th. All are welcome! Respectfully, Matt Mercer Principal SCMS
