To: All SCMS Stakeholders
We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Students can BE PROACTIVE by getting sleep, eating breakfast, and not missing school, in order to do their best on the test! The KPREP state assessment will be administered at SCMS to students on May 10-16. Makeups will be May 17-20. We currently rank #25 in KY and strive be Top 20. Let’s do this! Habit 2 – Let’s BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND by looking at key dates as we go down the stretch: KPREP is May 10-13 & 16. 8th Grade Graduation is scheduled for May 25. All Students Last Day, 6th/7th grade Awards Day & 8th Grade Belle Trip will be on May 26. Teacher’s closing day will be May 27th. Habit 3 – A huge thank you to President Amanda Grubb and PTSO for PUTTING FIRST THINGS FIRST as we now focus our attention on the KPREP state assessment. Ms. Grubb has arranged several things to motivate our students. May 3rd UofL Women’s Basketball Coach Jeff Walz spoke to our students, & May 9th Bellermine Men’s Head Basketball Coach Scott Davenport will discuss the importance of perseverance on the test! Habit 4 – Tyler Moerhke was THINKING WIN-WIN by placing 1st in Kentucky at the National History Day Competition in Louisville. Tyler defeated over two-hundred other students from across the commonwealth to win the distinction “State Champion”. Congratulations Tyler, we’re proud that you represent Spencer County! Habit 5 – Our school would like to SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD by accepting applications for next year’s Leader in Me Student Lighthouse Team. Students can submit applications to the main office. After student led interviews and Admin approval next year’s team will be selected. For more information email: [email protected] Habit 6 – Grizzly Band & Chorus SYNERGIZED to win overall first place over the weekend at the King’s Island Competition. Every student scored Distinguished! Thanks to Ms. Stampfer & Ms. Shipley for their dedication! Everyone is invited to the Drama Department’s Spring Musical “Mary Poppins”, May 12-15 (flyer attached). Habit 7 – The SCMS Academic Team will be SHARPENING THEIR SAW on May 20th, with a fun day of activity at Kentucky Kingdom to celebrate their very successful year and Quick Recall Championship! Over 60 students have tried out for next year’s team, so the future is very bright! Thanks to sponsors, Mr. Collins & Ms. Parnell! Respectfully, Matt Mercer Principal SCMS
