We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Parents can BE PROACTIVE with the free Infinite Campus App, which sends push notifications every time a teacher enters a grade for your son or daughter. Report Cards will be sent home on October 12th prior to Fall Break. Check those backpacks! Fall Break is October 13-23th. Habit 3 – Congratulations: Camden Cardwell, Kaleb Barnes, Justin Curtsinger, Emma York, and Ms. Downs’/Ms. Smith’s 1st period class , for PUTTING FIRST THINGS FIRST and being recognized as Grizzly Heroes this week. We are very proud of the leadership skills they are displaying. Habit 4 – On October 3rd, we will be THINKING WIN-WIN at our Bi-annual Parent Involvement Night. This is a great opportunity to walk through your students 7 periods schedule and meet their teachers. Topics are grade level relevant & students are welcome to attend. Refreshments - 5:30. Habit 5 – The Grizzly News Crew is SEEKING FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD by highlighting our school weekly in a quick and simple way for those with a busy schedule. Friday - School Dance hosted by Grizzly Football, 9/28 - Henry County at SCMS Football and St. Catherine at Lady Grizzly Basketball, 10/2 - Fall Chorus Concert, 10/5 - Fall Band Concert. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Parents, please remind students to BE PROACTIVE and have a KMSAA sports physical to tryout for any team. Students cannot participate in practice without this Dr. signed form. Habit 2 – Spencer Middle is BEGINNING WITH THE END IN MIND by hosting six Parent Academy’s throughout the school year. Our first Parent Academy will be Sept. 14th at 6:30pm - topic will be “I Am Someone”, and will focus on responsible use of technology. All parents are invited (flyer attached). Habit 3 – We will PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST; MAP testing the week of Sept. 18. Please remind students the importance of doing their best - the MS and HS utilize these scores for scheduling. Habit 4 – THINK WIN-WIN! and dress your best for picture day at SCMS this Thursday. Habit 5 – The GBB Community Service Club is SEEKING FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD by recognizing first responders, firefighters and police men and women with treat bags in remembrance of 9/11. We appreciate these special people for keeping us safe! The club is also working with SCHS student Clarissa Barrick to collect coats for the needy. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Parents, please remind students to BE PROACTIVE when making a change to daily transportation. Send a signed note to school and have your son/daughter give it to their 1st period teacher and get it back from their 7th period teacher. This allows us to confirm authenticity. Habit 2 – Spencer Middle is BEGINNING WITH THE END IN MIND by hosting six Parent Academy’s throughout the school year. Our first Parent Academy will be Sept. 14th at 6:30pm - topic will be “I Am Someone”, and will focus on responsible use of technology. All parents and students are invited! Habit 4 – THINK WIN-WIN! 1st quarter midterms ends this Thursday and midterm reports will be sent home Sept. 14th - ask your son/daughter about their progress. Habit 5 – All 8th grade students along with Advanced Drama students will SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD while visiting the Actor’s Theatre in Louisville on Friday, August 8th. Our student’s will see a live performance of Dracula that corresponds to lessons in class. Habit 6 – GBB = SYNERGY! Grizzlies Beyond the Bell has been a huge success with over 130 students per day: snacks at 2:30, homework help at 3pm, clubs at 4pm, team building at 5pm, and dismissal at 5:30. Four transportation drops are: Spencer Christian Church, Lighthouse Baptist Church, Waterford Park, & Little Union Church. For more info: [email protected] .
