To: All SCMS Stakeholders
We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Reminder: Parents and students can BE PROACTIVE and help us eliminate bullying by utilizing the STOP – Help Tipline at http://www.kycss.org/stop/stop.php?district=Spencer.County.School.District Habit 2 – At Spencer County Middle, we BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND! 3rd Qtr. Mid-term reports will be sent home the week of Feb. 13th. No School for students on Feb. 17-20. Habit 3 – Congratulations, to Coach Collins/Parnell and the Grizzly Academic Team for PUTTING FIRST THINGS FIRST and placing Regional Runner-up out of 17 teams on Saturday. For the first time in school history our Future Problem Solving team (Jack Baird, Lauren Barr, Mary Young, & Tyler Richendollar) has qualified for state! Kudos, to Jonathon Antonelli (SS 1st), Jack Kennedy (SS 2nd), & Emma Parnell (Comp. 4th) for winning medals and qualifying for the state competition. Good luck! Habit 4 – SCMS Lego Robotics was THINKING WIN-WIN last weekend as they competed in the state competition. Our students placed 1st in “Core Values” and 2nd “Robot Performance” & 11th overall in the state! We are so proud of: Ella Thompson, Aiden Thompson, Andrew Sosbee, Brodie Burroughs, Joshua Delgado, & Nathan Pace! Habit 5 – We are SEEKING FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD by moving Parent Involvement Night up a little earlier this year in hopes of a better turnout. Please save the date: March 16, 2017 at 5:30. Parents and students are invited to attend. Agenda’s will be sent out next week. Habit 6 – Let’s SYNERGIZE! Our Sources of Strength group will kick off their Trusted Adult Campaign on Feb. 16th in the cafeteria by asking students to fill out a card of “trusted adults” in their lives. Thanks guys! Habit 7 – Thanks to everyone who came out to SHARPEN THE SAW this week! Boys’ basketball won two championships in 3 days. Congratulations, 7th & 8th grade teams on their MKAC Conference Championship. Sixth grade ballers fell just two points short in the finals against a very good team. Proud of you all! Respectfully, Matt Mercer Principal SCMS
