Next week is our last full week prior to Fall Break which begins on October 11. Parent Involvement Night will be October 3rd (next Thursday), everyone is invited, we begin with food at 5:30 and class rotations at 6 pm. 1st Quarter Report Cards will be sent home October 10th. SUPPORT SCMS, all proceeds benefit our students by way of technology and student needs. Yankee Candle & Otis Spunkmeyer Cookie Dough fundraiser begins this week! Your student will be coming home with a packet that has brochures, order forms and all the info you need to participate. Orders MUST be picked up from the school on Thursday, Nov.7th, 3-6pm. Orders with glass candle jars/cookie dough cannot go home on the bus. Grizzly Athletics: Season passes are now on sale at the athletic gates. $65 get's you in all home events. Girls basketball 8th grade night is tonight, games starting at 5:30 pm. Grizzly football hosts North Bullitt on October 1, 8th grade night. Come out and support the Grizzlies! SB1 mandates that all schools grade 6-12 are to train students prior to September 15 of each year on suicide prevention. We were fortunate enough to have state and nationally renown speaker Scott Harvey with us yesterday to discuss critical issues such as teen suicide and online cyber bullying. Congratulations to our very own, Ms. Ashley McGaughey, on being selected as one of only three Kentucky teachers named 2019 Earle C. Clements Innovation in Education Award winners from the National Archives and the University of Kentucky Libraries Wendell H. Ford Public Policy Research Center. Ashley McGaughey of Spencer County Middle School, Donnie Wilkerson of Jamestown Elementary School (Russell County) and Chris Workman of Waco Elementary School (Madison County) received the awards, which recognize the state’s best educators in history and/or civics. I pray everyone had a blessed Labor Day weekend as we enter yet another four day week for students. Mid-term reports will be sent home Sept. 13, so check those backpacks. Attention 6th grade parents/guardians: Please send your child's Immunization Certificate and/or 6th grade Physical/Preventive Health Exam. Notices went out last week. Academic Team - After-school enrichment/Academic Team practice starts this week. Students are welcome to stay from 3PM-4PM. This newsletter is going home with students today. Student's do not have to sign up for particular clubs. We will not put a number cap on clubs so there will be plenty of room for everyone. Any student that has registered can stay any day (Monday-Thursday) from 2:30-5:30. We begin with a snack, then homework help, clubs & activities, and finish up with a team building activity.
