Hello Grizzly Families,
The 1st quarter grading period ends on October 8th and report cards will be sent home on October 11th. Fall Break is October 12-22. Parents can sign up for grade notifications through the Infinite Campus app: http://www.spencer.kyschools.us/Content/130www.spencer.kyschools.us/Content/130 State test scores were released to the public today and it's another banner year for SCMS. Although the accountability system has changed in many ways such as categorical titles and reporting, "WHAT" is being assessed remains the same. Of the 330 middle schools in Kentucky, the state identified 12 as low-performing, 128 as needing improvement, and I'm happy to say we rank 39th of the remaining high performing schools. Our emphasis on writing is paying off with a 17 point jump from '17 to '18. Our school outpaces the state in Reading by 11 points, Math by 9, Social Studies by 8, and Science by 7. We are still focused on eliminating "Novice" altogether, however we are well ahead of the state avg. of 17% in Math compared to our 6%, and the state's 19% in Reading vs our 9%. Kudos, to SCMS Band Director Brandon Johnson, on winning this month's BOE Going the Distance Award!
