We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Students can BE PROACTIVE by turning in all assignments. 2nd quarter report cards were sent home January 11. Mid-term reports will come home on Feb. 18. A very useful tool for parents is the Infinite Campus App; where you can check grades and receive push notifications daily. Habit 2 – Congratulations to our current A.R. leaders who BEGAN WITH THE END IN MIND: 5th – Lily Weibel, 4th – Abby Watts, 3rd – Dawson Sheble, 2nd – Cameron Emmons, 1st – Erika Montgomery. Habit 3 – SCMS is PUTTING FIRST THINGS FIRST by recognizing the following students as this weeks “ERQ Leaders”: Brianna Mena, Jenna Newton, Britley Goeing, Braydon Kerchner. Habit 4 – Congratulations to Halley Smith for THINKING WIN-WIN this week winning the annual SCMS Schoolwide Spelling Bee. Kudos also to Jillian Kelley who finished runner-up and will serve as an alternate. We wish them luck at District Spelling Bee on Feb. 11, hosted by SCMS. Habit 5 – Ms. Hinton, our school Intervention Specialist is SEEKING FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD with this semester’s G/T Newsletter (attached). For more information on G/T or RTI services please email [email protected]. Habit 6 – Thanks to students Jonathon Antonelli, Joshua Dunkelberger, Tyler Richendollar, and Dyllan Tipton, who SYNERGIZED this week in a presentation to the Spencer County School Board of Education discussing “The Making of an Academic Team”. The group explained our 5th period class and after school practice. Good luck SCMS Academics at District’s this week! Habit 7 – All students are invited to come out and SHARPEN THE SAW Friday the 12th of February, at our annual Valentine’s Dance sponsored by PTSO. We are in need of parent chaperones for this event. If you can assist please email [email protected] or call 502-299-3240. Respectfully, Matt Mercer Principal SCMS
