Good afternoon SCMS Families,
The time is now!!! State testing begins tomorrow and runs May 8-14. We rarely speak to our students about the state assessment, however I do constantly remind people that SCMS has been Distinguished four consecutive years, ranked in the Top 25 of 330 MS's in KY, and most recently named a Kentucky School's to Watch, only one of three in the state. Our community is and should be very proud of these accomplishments - mostly because this communicates to our students that they are the BEST! They can achieve anything! We care less about the test and more about the mentality. Let's all be great!!! Grizzly Olympics yesterday was awesome! Fun and games were held outside in the morning and after lunch Mr. Adams along with our faculty/staff defeated the students in a fun yet competitive game of basketball in the gym for all students to enjoy. Today we did our testing run-through to assure all students were aware of where to be and what to expect over the next few days! Tomorrow is day 1 of testing for students at all grade levels. Please make sure your son/daughter is in bed early, has a healthy breakfast, and try's their very best on the test. Good luck to our baseball and softball teams who complete their regular seasons this week; baseball plays at home Wed. & Thur, while softball finishes up Thurs. & Fri.: softball schedule , girls soccer schedule , boys soccer schedule , baseball schedule Saturday, Grizzly Track competed at the Derby Middle School invitational in Elizabethtown. Our boys placed 3rd overall! Wade Hutt broke a state record in the TurboJav throwing it 142 feet 10 inches!! Top 10 finishers are as follows: Wade Hutt: 1st place 100m hurdles, 1st place 300m hurdles, 1st place Long Jump, 1st place TurboJav Marquis Powell: 3rd place 100m, 6th place 200m dash, 2nd place Discus Amber Sullivan: 8th place 100m, 2nd place 400m dash, 5th place 200m dash Casey DeSilvey: 1600m run, 7th place 800m run, 6th place 3200m run Will Moore: 8th place 1600m run, 9th place 400m dash Arick Henry: 10th place 400m dash James Hall: 4th place Shot Put, 7th place TurboJav 4x100m relay (Marquis Powell, Tommy Eisenback, Chase Semones, Arick Henry) 2nd place 8th grade parents - money is due this week: College Visit $6, Class T-shirt $6, and Belle Trip is $36. We always have some questions regarding dress attire for the Belle of Louisville trip. Here's some tips from our teachers: 1. Absolutely no jeans and no shorts. 2. Wear your Sunday best. Dress, khakis, dress suit, tuxedo if you feel inclined 3. Wear shoes the whole time. Bring flip flops to change into if needed 4. Make sure everything is covered and appropriate length, with nothing hanging out. *Mr. Buynak is getting more Belle and Graduation information home next week.
