We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Parents, please remind all students to BE PROACTIVE in turning in daily assignments, as we enter the final week of Semester 1. This Friday, December 19th will end the 2nd nine weeks. Report Cards will be sent home January 12. You may access Infinite Campus online to check grades daily. Habit 2 – Grizzly Choir and Grizzly Band BEGAN WITH THE END IN MIND; practicing all semester for their Holiday Concerts. Thanks to everyone who attended our Christmas Band Concert this past Friday night. The gym was packed! The Christmas Choral Concert is Monday night at 7:00pm. Habit 3 – Ms. Laurue and the SCMS Art Department PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST recently with the Kentucky Folk Art Museum selecting our students’ work for display at the ‘Pictures in Place’ exhibit in Morehead, KY, through February 27, 2015. This Friday we will be showing our appreciation for this group of student volunteers with a Pizza and Ice Cream Party. Great work students!!! Habit 5 – Spencer Middle will SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD as we begin our Grizzly “Paws” Mentoring Program. Now through December 17th, students will be turning in donated goods to their fifth period teacher. Winner’s get dessert!!! Habit 7 – Thanks to all our sponsors and community members who came out to SHARPEN THE SAW at our First Annual Winterfest! The great night of fun brought in $11,500; all proceeds going to student classroom technology. Respectfully, Matt Mercer Principal SCMS

We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Parents, please remind all students to BE PROACTIVE in turning in daily assignments, as we have only 10 school days until the end of Semester 1. December 19th will end the 2nd nine weeks. You may access Infinite Campus online to check grades daily. Habit 2 – Grizzly Choir and Grizzly Band BEGAN WITH THE END IN MIND; practicing all semester for their upcoming concerts. Please come out and support these fine programs – Christmas Band Concert will be on Dec. 12th at 6:30pm, and the Christmas Choral Concert is on Dec. 15th at 7:00pm. Habit 3 – Spencer County Middle School Football literally PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST over Thanksgiving; with four players competing in the annual East vs West KY All Star Team. 7th grader Seth Thompson and 8th graders Alex Wright, Chris Shelbourne and Anthony Lashley, were all selected for this prestigious award. Congratulations to these individuals and their families! Habit 4 – The SCMS Academic Team was THINKING WIN-WIN over the past week as they competed in the 6th Grade Showcase. Our students finished 2nd only to Eastside Middle School after a tense tie-breaker match in quick recall. The future is very bright for this group as they continue to improve! Habit 5 – Spencer Middle will SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD from December 8th - 19th, as we MAP assess all students to check for mid-year academic growth. Please urge your son/daughter to be present at school and give a great effort! Habit 6 – The ‘Grizzly Beyond the Bell’ Community Service Club is SYNERGIZING with County Officials for the annual Food Drive for Needy Families event. Now through December 17th, students will be turning in donated goods to their fifth period teacher. Winner’s get dessert!!! Habit 7 – Thanks to all our sponsors and community members who came out to SHARPEN THE SAW at our First Annual Winterfest! It was a great night of fun, food, activities, live auctioneer, crafts, coffee shop, and games for all ages. All proceeds go to student classroom technology.
