Good morning SCMS families,
We are very excited to announce that SCMS is one of nine middle schools in Kentucky to be selected as a Schools to Watch finalist. The STW organization will be conducting a site visit at SCMS on January 3rd and 4th. School winners will be recognized in Washington D.C. in June. The Grizzly Robotics Team won 1st place and named Grand Champions over the weekend in Regionals at WKU. Next up, State Competition on Dec. 8. On November 30th, all distinguished high school and middle school students will be recognized in a ceremony at SCHS (more info to come). WINTERFEST at SCMS is DECEMBER 1st!!! This year’s silent auction will have more than 70 baskets, (Disney Tickets and basket worth more than $700). Crafts, games for all ages, dodge-ball tournament, and various dinner options. On Tuesday, Ms. Steege’s Adv. Drama Classes will be presenting their "Theater for Social Change - Power" production for each of the grade levels. Italy anyone? We will be hosting a parent meeting on December 5th at 6:30 in Ms. Cox’s room 106 to discuss the Summer 2018 Italy Trip. For more info: [email protected] . The 4th Annual SCMS Student KPREP Rally was a huge success! Students participated in a variety of “Game Show” related activities as we celebrated our 3rd consecutive year as a Distinguished Middle School in Kentucky. On Friday, we visited last year’s 8th graders at SCHS and presented them with their banner and also recognized students that scored Distinguished in all tested areas. The Spencer County Schools Distinguished Ceremony at SCHS will be Nov. 30th for SCMS/SCHS, and Dec. 12th for TES/SCES. Invitations will be mailed.
Our 5th annual Pancakes for Patriots Breakfast and Veteran’s Day Program will be on Friday, November 10th. [email protected] We will be having our November Parent Academy on November 14th from 5-7pm. Parents along with students will be doing hands on activities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math. The “Fall Ball” will be Nov. 17th at SCHS. This school dance is only for middle school students and is hosted at SCHS as a transition activity into high school. This event is hosted by our Educator’s Rising GBB Club and sponsor Amber Martin. Congratulations, to our girls’ basketball team for the first time in school history winning the 7th grade MKAC Conference Tournament. Kudos to 6th and 8th grade teams for finishing runner-up. The boys’ basketball team is off to a good start, defeating OKH last night in all three games (6th, 7th, & 8th). Good luck to our 6th grade this weekend in the Nelson County HS double elimination tournament. Next Tuesday we travel to Crosby MS and on Thursday we visit Shelby West. Baseball tryouts will be Nov. 13th for 6th grade, and Nov. 15th for 7th and 8th grade. Volleyball tryouts will be Nov. 16th from 4-7pm. Everyone put WINTERFEST on your calendars!!!
