WINTERFEST at SCMS is only 10 days away, Dec. 14th!!! The 5th annual Winterfest will feature an outdoor skate rink. Bring out the little ones and let them ice skate Friday from 3:30-8pm, and Saturday from 10am-2pm. As always there will be food trucks, games for all ages, a dodge ball tournament, and live/silent auctions with over 200 items, click here. Everyone is invited to a fun evening at SCMS! The 2nd quarter mid-term reports were sent home on November 27th. 2nd Term ends Dec. 19th. Parents can sign up for grade notifications through Infinite Campus : http://www.spencer.kyschools.us/Content/130www.spencer.kyschools.us/Content/130 SCMS Academic's hosted the 6th Grade Challenge this weekend. The Grizzly's finished 2nd place overall (49 overall points; North Oldham took 1st with 55 points), and 1st in Quick Recall after winning 2 out of 3 matches against North Oldham!!! Many of the students also had individual medals as listed below: Math: Jack Hart 1st place Science: Jack Hart 5th place (tie) Social Studies: Kate Bannon 1st place (3-way tie), William Krause 1st place Language Arts: Lauren Seebold 1st place, Mason Ward 5th place (tie) Arts & Humanities: Lillian Hodgkins 3rd place, William Krause 6th place Congratulations to the following 2019 District Honor's Band members: Sydney Druin, Cole Stone, Loralae Cox, Brendan Harrelson, and Aaron Alcorn. Kudos to our SCMS Dance Team as they finished 1st place in the Smokey Mountain Challenge this weekend! They are also tweet of the week! Drama Dept. will be hosting rehearsals for Little Women on Monday Dec. 3, 3-5:30. All actors and tech are called. Competition play actor and tech packets can be picked up in the front office or in the auditorium. Must be returned Dec. 7. Baseball tryouts will be Dec. 5th from 3-5. Must have a KHSAA Sports Physical. Christmas Food Drive starts today through Dec. 11th. Homeroom that collects the most items wins a party! One Book One School One Book One School has began at SCMS! All grade levels are reading the novel The Miscalculations of Lightning Girl by Stacy McAnulty during their 5th period class. The story is about Lucy Callahan who was struck by lightning and the zap gave her genius level math skills. At age 12 she was technically ready for college but Lucy's grandma wants her to go to middle school and survive for one year. Can Lucy learn to adapt to life in middle school with her superpower brain? Classes will be reading this novel together through the month of December. We will also have a visit from the author! Make sure you ask your student questions about Lucy and her exciting adventures in middle school!
