Hello, It's week 4 of the 2nd semester here at SCMS. 3rd Quarter mid-term ends on Feb. 5th and mid-term reports will be sent home Feb. 12. The third nine weeks ends March 8, and report cards will be sent home on March 15. Our next official day off will be President's Day, Feb. 18. Spring Break is March 29 - April 8. Congratulations, Dawson Hawkins on being our school winner of the National Geographic Bee! Congrats, classroom winners: Jack Massey, Grayson Humes, Hannah Palmer, Jesse Campbell, and Justice Derksen. It's basketball post-season time. Kudos to our 6th grade boys basketball team for winning the conference regular season and post-season tournament this weekend. Good luck tonight as our 7th grade travels to Taylor County to face Washington Co at 7:15pm. 8th Grade kicks things off at home tomorrow night vs Washington Co. at 6pm, and Thursday (if we win) at home at 6pm. It's week 3 of the 2nd semester here at SCMS. A four day week with a two hour delay, hopefully everyone has thawed out and we get through the week without anymore ice/snow. The mid-term ends on Feb. 5th and reports will be sent home Feb. 12. The third nine weeks ends March 8, and report cards will be sent home on March 15. Congratulations to the SCMS Dance Team on winning 1st place overall in the regional competition and advancing to state! Kudos to SCMS Academic Team for their success in the KAAC District 42 competition over the weekend placing 1st in Quick Recall, 1st in Future Problem Solving, and 1st overall! Tucker Mayfield placed 1st in Science with Ryan West and Brendan Harrelson placing 2nd and 3rd respectively. Ryan West placed 1st in Social Studies with Brendan Harrelson placing 2nd. Teddi Parks placed 1st in Language Arts while Kaylee Monroe placed 2nd. Sarah Reesor placed 3rd in Arts and Humanities, Nora Knight placed 2nd in Composition, Jack Hurt placed 4th in Math, and Kaylee Monroe placed 4th in Composition! It's week 2 of the 2nd semester here at SCMS. Report cards were sent home Friday, January 11. We have concluded Winter MAP testing; some students are still doing make-ups. We want to congratulate those students who met or exceeded their MAP Goal for first semester. Schedule changes are occurring this week as several students have tested out of RTI, we are very proud of their hard work! There will be no school in Spencer County on Monday, January 21, as we honor Martin Luther King Day. I just had a chance to see some of our students interacting with national renown speaker Ted Wiese, who's providing a Leadership Workshop today at SCMS. Our students are learning “I Feel Great” Leadership! So much energy and excitement! I pray that everyone had a blessed break! Today is day 1 of the 2nd semester here at SCMS. Semester exams and on-demand writing pieces should be returned this week. Report cards will be sent home this Friday, January 11. We are also MAP testing this week: 8th grade tests Monday, 7th grade tests Tuesday, & 6th grade tests Wednesday. MAP Makeups will be next Monday and Tuesday. Huge thanks to everyone that participated in this year's Winterfest! It was a record year, bringing in over $17,000 before expenses. We truly appreciate all our sponsor's and volunteer's, and Platinum Supporter's: County Mart, SC Public Library, and Spaulding Concrete. Every penny will be invested into our Chromebooks for Kids initiative, which has purchased over 500 devices to date. One Book One School All grade levels have been reading the novel The Miscalculations of Lightning Girl by Stacy McAnulty during their 5th period class. Tomorrow, Tuesday, Jan. 8th, students will hear from the author and have a chance to ask questions about her career and the book. Ms. McAnulty, will also be meeting with our GBB kiddos for an enrichment activity after school. Come out and support boy's basketball this week. Tonight is 8th grade night at SCMS vs Bloomfield MS. We will be recognizing boys basketball, cheer, and dance, between the 7th & 8th grade games. Elementary school dance will be performing between 6th and 7th grade games. Banners for softball and baseball will be pulled at halftime of the 6th grade game. The boy's also play on the road Tuesday and Thursday as well. Good luck guys!
