Week 4, at Spencer County Middle School was awesome! As your son/daughter may have informed you; we are now living LIM’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence will also follow the 7 Habits theme:
Habit 1 – Mid-term reports will be arriving home this Thursday, September 11. Please BE PROACTIVE and utilize the Infinite Campus App for smart phones to follow your child’s academic progress. Habit 2 – As we BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND, a parent/guardian organizational meeting for the annual 7th grade Washington DC trip will be held September 11 at 5:45 in the cafeteria. Habit 3 – At SCMS we PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST; student safety! Last week we performed emergency evacuation drills (tornado, earthquake, fire, and lock-down). Each procedure was timed and assessed to better prepare students and staff in case of an emergency situation. Habit 4 – 6th grade student Sierra Knapper, is THINKING WIN-WIN, by incorporating technology into her work. Thanks to Ms. Sarah Parnell, for submitting this week’s student spotlight! Take a look! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdBKUpxmBRM Habit 5 – We SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD as students have yet to complete a full five day week. Everyone is now expected to completely follow: electronic devices (not out, not on), dress code, tardies and agenda’s (I Can Statements each period). Habit 6 – SCMS, PTSO, and FRYC are partnering to SYNERGIZE; in organizing the first of four ‘Leader In Me’ luncheons. On September 18th, more than twenty local and state leaders are scheduled to teach the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens to all students! Habit 7 – Monday night please come out and SHARPEN THE SAW at our Lady Grizzlies ‘White Out’ vs. Old Kentucky Home. Congratulations, to Grizzly Football for their 25-12 win over Henry County! Respectfully, Matt Mercer Principal SCMS
