To: All SCMS Stakeholders
We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – We ask our students to BE PROACTIVE when absences are unavoidable. Please encourage students to get their work prior to missing school. Also, when student return please send a medical or parent excuse to assure an excused absence. When absences are educational please complete an Educational Enhancement Opportunity application at: http://publicschools.spencercounty.ky.gov/parents/att.htm Habit 2 – Our students BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND every class period by writing down their daily “I Can” statement; which represents what will be learned that day. Parents please check your student’s agenda to assist in the process. Students get credit in 7th Period on Friday for the week’s “I Can’s”! Habit 3 – SCMS chooses to PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST; student leadership. Eighteen students have been chosen by teachers to serve on the LIM Student Lighthouse Leadership Team: Jason Nichols, Lizzie Mallory, Lilly Brown, Kris Cole, Taylyala Jenkins, Gideon Stever, Seth Thompson, Caitlyn Watson, Jasmine Patterson, Stanley Shivers, Micha McCarthy, Kilee Rohr, Rose Wood, Wyatt Derudder, Caleb Hunter Greer, Whitney hardin, Jackson Cole & Sydney Rehm. Habit 4 – We’re THINKING WIN-WIN, by inviting all parents to attend our Parent Involvement Night at SCMS this Tuesday night. We look forward to fun activities sponsored by our G/T program. Academic dialogue between parents and teachers is always a win-win. Habit 5 – It’s important to SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD; and we’re practicing this on October 2, by offering Smile KY Dental Screenings to every 6th grade student. Parent’s, more information will be sent home this week! Habit 6 – SCMS, PTSO, and FRYC partnered to SYNERGIZE; Twenty-five local and state leaders taught the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens to all students this past Thursday at the first of four LIM Luncheons! Our next LIM Luncheon is scheduled for December 4. Habit 7 – Come out, SHARPEN THE SAW, and support our Grizzly Band & Choir. The first Chorus concert of the year will begin at 7pm on October 6th, and the first Band Concert will be on October 9th. All are welcome! Respectfully, Matt Mercer Principal SCMS
