To: All SCMS Stakeholders
We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – SCMS was BEING PROACTIVE when we trained all students in internet etiquette and cyber safety in August. All students completed and received their digital driver’s licenses prior to logging on. Thanks to Ms. Gabbard and all faculty and staff for teaching kids appropriate online behavior! Habit 2 – At SCMS we try to BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND! Report Cards will be sent home on October 13th prior to Fall Break. Fall Break is October 14-24th. Then, 15 days until Thanksgiving! Habit 3 – Congratulations Gracie Sandusky, Ella Steers, Caleb Curtis, Isaiah Huff, & Trenton Estridge, for PUTTING FIRST THINGS FIRST and being recognized as Grizzly Heroes last week. We are very proud of the leadership skills they are displaying. Habit 4 – On September 27, we will be THINKING WIN-WIN when Ms. Kentucky will be coming to SCMS about 1:15 to speak with all girls. She also will be speaking to GBB boys and girls after school, in case anyone wants to stay and listen. For more info. contact [email protected]. Habit 5 – Ms. Martin and Family Resource is SEEKING FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD by providing “Sources of Strength” training last week to 18 student selected, student leaders & 6 staff. This is a positive and uplifting initiative that focuses on connecting personally, with resources, supports and activities. They will meet monthly to plan implementation of school-wide campaigns such as: What makes me stronger?, Thankfulness Challenge?, Generosity Challenge?, and Who are our Trusted Adults/Mentors?. Habit 6 – Advanced Art Students are SYNERGIZING with “The Red Scooter” in downtown Taylorsville by hosting a display of student sculptures in celebration of the annual Taylorsville Main Street Progressive Dinner that occurred on Sat. Sept 24th. Artworks will be on display until October 7th. Habit 7 – Everyone come out and SHARPEN THE SAW! Grizzly Football plays in the Conference Championship at Bardstown MS Tuesday at 6pm. PTSO is planning a student tailgate for this Friday at 5:30-6:45 – buses will then take kids to the SCHS vs North Oldham Homecoming Game, parents responsible for students upon arrival. The Fall Band concert will be on Oct 6th, starting at 6:30. 6th grade and 7th grade report at 5:45, 8th grade reports at 6:45. Respectfully, Matt Mercer Principal SCMS
