To: All SCMS Stakeholders
We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Parents and students can BE PROACTIVE by attending our SCMS Parent Involvement Night on September 22, see attached flyer. The evening begins at 5:30 with food & drinks in the cafeteria. Please be familiar with your student’s schedule, as you will rotate through each of their classes. Habit 2 – Please encourage students to BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND in completing and turning in assignments as mid-term reports will be sent home on September 17. The 1st nine weeks ends October 8 and report cards will be sent home October 15. Habit 3 – Students can PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST, by bringing home their picture proofs this week. Anyone interested may purchase pictures by returning packets to homeroom teachers. Fall retakes are scheduled for November 2. Habit 4 –SCMS is THINKING WIN-WIN by hosting our annual Anti-Bullying Rally for students on Sept. 25 at 1pm. This year’s assembly will be led by nationally renowned speaker, Joe Washington. Joe is known for his upbeat, high energy presentations, sure to get everyone out of their seats! Habit 5 – The Library Media Center and the Youth Service Center are SEEKING FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD during the month of September as they team up for Food for Fines. Students who have lost a book from the library can replace the cost of the book by donating boxes of individually packaged food items (such as breakfast bars, ravioli, mac & cheese, etc.) to the Youth Service Center's program Backpack Buddies. Habit 6 – Ms. Mathews and SCES are SYNERGIZING on September 23-25. On these days 8th grade students will be conducting a field study with 4th grade students in Science Adaptations. Together we learn more! Habit 7 – Come out and SHARPEN THE SAW and also support our student-athletes this week. Girls Basketball plays at Bloomfield and Grizzly Football travels to Henry County tonight, and Football 8th grade night is Sept. 17. Respectfully, Matt Mercer Principal SCMS
