To: All SCMS Stakeholders
We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Parents can BE PROACTIVE by checking Infinite Campus daily. Students can be proactive by turning in all assignments on time, as Mid-Term Reports will be sent home September 15th. Please look for those at that time. Habit 2 – At SCMS we try to BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND! MAP Testing has concluded and we are in the process of changing over 100 schedules to assure every student has appropriate levels of support. If your son/daughter needs assistance in Math/Reading you will be hearing from us soon. Habit 3 – Thanks to 8th grader Alex Llanas, for PUTTING FIRST THINGS FIRST and showing off his artistic abilities by drawing a picture of SCMS that will be displayed in the main office this school year. Great job Alex, and keep up the good work! Habit 4 – On September 22, we will be THINKING WIN-WIN at our Bi-annual Parent Involvement Night. This is a great opportunity to walk through your students 7 periods schedule and meet their teachers. Topics are grade level relevant & students are welcome to attend. Refreshments - 5:30. Habit 5 – SCMS is SEEKING FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD with a field study on Sept. 16, 8th Grade ELA and Advanced Drama are going to the Louisville Actor’s Theatre to see “Dracula”. Dracula will also be performed later this year by the SCMS Drama Dept. Habit 6 – Boys and Girls Basketball are SYNERGIZING in hosting a September 16th Middle School Dance! All are welcome to attend this night of food and fun. The dance is 3-6pm. Habit 7 – Everyone can come out and SHARPEN THE SAW this week by supporting Grizzly Athletics! The Girls Basketball Team plays at OKH on Thursday and travel to Whitely County for an Invitational Tournament on Saturday. Respectfully, Matt Mercer Principal SCMS
