To: All SCMS Stakeholders
We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Parents, please remind students to BE PROACTIVE when making a change to daily transportation. Send a signed note to school and have your son/daughter give it to their 1st period teacher and get it back from their 7th period teacher. This allows us to confirm authenticity. Habit 2 – Spencer Middle is BEGINNING WITH THE END IN MIND by hosting six Parent Academy’s throughout the school year. Our first Parent Academy will be Sept. 14th at 6:30pm - topic will be “I Am Someone”, and will focus on responsible use of technology. All parents and students are invited! Habit 3 – We will PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST; MAP testing the week of Sept. 18. Please remind students the importance of doing their best - the MS and HS utilize these scores for scheduling. Habit 4 – THINK WIN-WIN! 1st quarter midterms ends this Thursday and midterm reports will be sent home Sept. 14th - ask your son/daughter about their progress. Habit 5 – All 8th grade students along with Advanced Drama students will SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD while visiting the Actor’s Theatre in Louisville on Friday, August 8th. Our student’s will see a live performance of Dracula that corresponds to lessons in class. Habit 6 – GBB = SYNERGY! Grizzlies Beyond the Bell has been a huge success with over 130 students per day: snacks at 2:30, homework help at 3pm, clubs at 4pm, team building at 5pm, and dismissal at 5:30. Four transportation drops are: Spencer Christian Church, Lighthouse Baptist Church, Waterford Park, & Little Union Church. For more info: [email protected] . Habit 7 – Everyone is invited to come out and SHARPEN THE SAW this week. Tuesday - Girls Basketball (6th & 7th) plays Marion Co. at home, and Grizzly Football vs Wash. Co. at Home. Respectfully, Matt Mercer Principal SCMS
