We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – This week’s Career Week will assist students in BEING PROACTIVE while emphasizing Career Readiness. On Tuesday, students will experience Reality Store and Finance Park. On Wednesday, 8th graders will visit Campbellsville University, and Thursday all students will hear from more than sixty, Spencer County Graduates that are leaders in their field. Habit 2 – UPDATE!!!! All parents/students can BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND; KPREP State testing for all SCMS students will be May 13-19. Final Exams will be May 22, Belle Field Trip will be on May 26, Graduation practice will be May 27, Graduation and Awards will be May 28. Sixth and Seventh Grade Awards day will be May 26. Habit 3 – SCMS students PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST this weekend, Jack Reynolds finished 11th out of 100 in the State Geography Bee Competition. Congrats, Caden Little who for finishing 8th out of 62 kids in the Kentucky Derby Festival Spelling Bee. Habit 4 – Congrats, Tyler Moehrke, Emily Brown, and Ann Ashley for THINKING WIN-WIN over the weekend competing at UofL in the National History Day Regionals. Tyler Moehrke, will be representing SCMS at state, on April 25 at UK. Habit 5 – Over 600 came out to see Spencer County Schools’ SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD on Saturday, hosting the first annual Spencer County All County Choir Concert. The day was a tremendous display of talent from students of TES, SCES, SCMS, and SCHS. Awesome day! Habit 6 – SCMS and SCES is SYNERGIZING with People’s Bank of Taylorsville with our “Chromebooks for Kids” initiative. People’s donated $6,000 ($3,000 to each SCMS and SCES) last week to the cause. Habit 7 – Grizzly Track SHARPENED THE SAW at their first meet last week; both boys & girls teams placed 4th overall. Trevor Hutt placed 2nd in the 100 hurdles and 3rd in the 300 hurdles. Lindsey Bush placed 1st in the 1600m & 2nd in the 800m. Lucas Hornback placed 2nd in the 1600m. AJ Basham placed 4th in the 1600m & 5th in 800m. McKenzie Bell placed 1st in the 400m & 3rd in 800m. Ben Williams placed 2nd in the 300m hurdles. 4th Grader Wade Hutt finished fifth in the long jump, beaten by only four 8th graders. Go Grizzlies! Respectfully, Matt Mercer
