To: All SCMS Stakeholders
We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Next week’s Career Week will assist students in BEING PROACTIVE while emphasizing Career Readiness. On Tuesday, students will experience Reality Store and Finance Park. On Wednesday, 8th graders will visit Campbellsville University, and Thursday all students will hear from Spencer County Grads that are leaders in their field. Habit 2 – 8th Grade parents and students can BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND; Final Exams will be June 1, Belle Field Trip will be on June 2, Graduation practice will be June 3, Graduation and Awards will be June 4 at 10am. Sixth and Seventh Grade Awards day will be June 2 at 12:30. Habit 3 – The Grizzly Dance Team PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST, when they were named “Ultimate Champions” this weekend at the Eastern Kentucky University competition; beating every dance team that competed all day. We are very proud of these girls and Dance Coach Desiree Wheatley. Habit 4 – Spencer County Schools are THINKING WIN-WIN, with yet another tool to address bullying; STOP Tipline. Our new school & district website www.spencer.kyschools.us, has a large STOP sign, where students & parents can anonymously report bullying, violence, & risky behavior. Habit 5 – SCMS is trying to SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD; by listing all events on our new website calendar. Click on http://www.spencer.kyschools.us/2/Home and on the right select “View Full Calendar”. Here you can search events by school or the entire district. Extra-curricular practice schedules for all activities can be found under “Athletics” and “Gym Schedule” Habit 6 – SCMS will be SYNERGIZING with Campbellsville University on April 1. The College Readiness focused visit will be provided to all 8th grade students to foster interest and educate students on admissions, scholarships, and career paths. Habit 7 – All students are invited to SHARPEN THE SAW this Friday at our school dance, sponsored by Grizzly Football. On that note, we are very excited to welcome new head football coach Nathan Greenwell, to our SCMS staff. Good luck to our Volleyball girls in their tournament this week at SCMS. Come out and support Grizzly Baseball this Thursday and Girls Soccer this Friday at SCMS. Respectfully, Matt Mercer Principal SCMS
