To: All SCMS Stakeholders
We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Parents you can BE PROACTIVE, by asking to see your child’s mid-term reports this Wednesday, which will be sent home on Feb. 11. If you are interested in additional support, we remind you that SCMS provides Homework Help (M-Th)! Contact Karen Leff for more information. Habit 2 – Hunter Wethington BEGAN WITH THE END IN MIND, when he set his goal of breaking the Spencer County Middle School record in the mile. I’m very excited to inform you that last Saturday he did just that and more at the University of Kentucky Wildcat Classic. Hunter’s 5:12:76 mile was the 4th fastest in MS history!!! He now ranks #1 in the state and top 5 Nationally!!! Congrats Hunter! Habit 3 – A small group of SCMS & SCES educators and students will be PUTTING FIRST THINGS FIRST on Feb. 18th when we visit Eminence Independent to get ideas on how to enhance technology innovation in our schools by purchasing “Chromebooks for Kids” in the future! Habit 4 – This Thursday, SCMS will be THINKING WIN-WIN as we welcome administrators from across the district to perform a three hour formal “Learning Walk”. We hope to gain valuable input and showcase student talents in our never-ending pursuit of academic excellence. Habit 5 – Spencer County Middle School will SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD, when 8th grade students participate in the NAEP test on Feb. 13. For more information on what is coined “The Nation’s Report Card”, click here. Habit 6 – SCMS is SYNERGIZING with Anti-Bullying Guru Scott Harvey, to educate all students on “Cyber Safety” & “Anti-Bullying Tactics” during a school-wide assembly on Feb. 19th at 1pm. Mr. Harvey will be speaking to ALL interested parents at 6pm in the Gym. Tell a friend & see you there! Habit 7 – All students are invited to SHARPEN THE SAW Friday, Feb. 13 at our PTSO sponsored Valentine’s Dance. At lunch students will select their own music to be played and a fun photo booth will also be on display. Tickets are $6 presale during lunch, and $8 at the door. Respectfully, Matt Mercer Principal SCMS
