To: All SCMS Stakeholders
We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Students can BE PROACTIVE by turning in all assignments. 2nd quarter report cards were sent home January 11. Mid-term reports will come home on Feb. 18. A very useful tool for parents is the Infinite Campus App; where you can check grades and receive push notifications daily. Habit 2 – Congratulations to our current A.R. leaders who BEGAN WITH THE END IN MIND: 5th – Cameron Emmons, 4th – Abby Watts, 3rd – Dawson Sheble, 2nd – Emily McGill, 1st – Erika Montgomery. Habit 3 – SCMS is PUTTING FIRST THINGS FIRST by recognizing students that have advanced to the National Geography Bee Regional Finals: Will Donovan, Joshua Dunkleberger, Cameron Emmons, Travis Huddleston, Caden Little, Jack Reynolds, Jonathan Antonelli, JD Brown, Hunter Derouck, & Jack Kennedy. Habit 4 – THINK WIN-WIN by signing your student up for Summer School, which be held on June 20th – 30th & July 11th – 21st, Mon-Thurs from 9:00 until 3:00 each day as in the past. Summer School will not be in session the week of July 4th. For more information please email: [email protected]. Habit 5 – Spencer County Schools is SEEKING FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD by asking for public comment on the 2016-2017 School Calendar (attached). Provide feedback to Diana Thomas via email at [email protected] no later than 3:45 p.m. on Feb. 4. Habit 6 – SCMS Family Resource and the community are SYNERGIZING for the Backpack Buddy Program; collecting food items or monetary donations. Each weekend, this program provides single serving food items to students that may have a need. Please contact the Family Resource or Youth Service Center if you would like to donate or support this program. Thank you, 477-3222 or 477-0199 Habit 7 – All students are invited to come out and SHARPEN THE SAW Friday the 12th of February, at our annual Valentine’s Dance sponsored by PTSO. We are in need of parent chaperones for this event. If you can assist please email [email protected] or call 502-299-3240. Respectfully, Matt Mercer Principal SCMS
