To: All SCMS Stakeholders
We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Parents can BE PROACTIVE, reminding students that this Wednesday (August 26) is fall picture day, every child will receive proofs; no prepay! Habit 2 – Please encourage students to BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND in completing and turning in assignments as mid-term reports will be sent home on September 17. The 1st nine weeks ends October 8 and report cards will be sent home October 15. Habit 3 – Tonight, SCMS will PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST, as nine Grizzly ‘Reality Summer’ students will be presenting at the monthly BOE Meeting, as they discuss the outstanding learning opportunity they experienced in June/July. Those students are: Hailey Davis, Maggie Eisenback, Jordan Harrington, Madelynn Hoskins, Matthew Louis, Adam Davis, Billy Jewell, Ashleigh Jones, and Kenny Swincher. Habit 4 –SCMS is THINKING WIN-WIN by recognizing student ‘Grizzlies of the Week’; nominated by classmates for following one of the Seven Habits. ‘Paws on the Back’ are weekly Faculty/Staff recognitions. Last weeks ‘Paw on the Back’ went to Mr. Hanson, for assisting in Technology. Habit 5 – We SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD by administering the MAP Assessment three times per year. This allows us to individualize instruction to teach students exactly where they are. The first Assessment window is Aug 31 to Oct. 2. Attached is the most current MAP Norms, this will assist you in determining if your son/daughter is at or above grade level. Habit 6 – Tomorrow, August 25th, SCMS and SCES will SYNERGIZE to promote literacy. Students from Ms. Butler’s 8th grade Language Arts Class will serve as ‘Reading Accountability Partner’s’, during 2nd, 4th and 6th periods for elementary students from Mrs. Penrod’s 5th grade class. This is serves as a piece in our 2015-2016 Middle School Transition Plan. Habit 7 – Students can SHARPEN THE SAW at ‘Grizzlies Beyond the Bell’ beginning Aug 31. BYB offers homework help and dozens of clubs and organizations to every SCMS student daily (Monday – Thursday), from 2:30 to 5:30. Transportation is provided!
