To: All SCMS Stakeholders
We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Social Media is a major concern for parents & schools alike. According to a Kaiser Family Foundation study, kids spend an over 7 hours a day connected to electronic devices. YOU can BE PROACTIVE by monitoring your child’s facebook, Instagram, text messages, etc. by clicking here! Habit 2 – Several students BEGAN WITH THE END IN MIND; practicing for 5 months to make the Honors band and auditioning against 300 students from 7 counties for their spots. Congrats to: Gabe Whitlock, Kenny Steward, Noah Dunning, Seth Baunach, Kassidy Pulliam, Savannah Norris, Ramsey Knotts, Jeremiah Potter, Tyler Moehrke, Pandora Booth, and Kyle Hughes. Habit 3 – The second nine weeks has come to an end. Parents, students, and teachers will PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST as report cards are sent home Monday, Jan. 11, with all students. Please ask your son/daughter to see their grade report tomorrow to engage in critical conversations! Habit 4 – Our Parent Teacher Student Organization is THINKING WIN-WIN, by encouraging all interested parents/guardians to attend monthly planning meetings. Our next PTSO meeting will be on January 14, at 6pm in the SCMS Conference Room. All are welcome! Habit 5 – Spencer County Middle School will SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD on February 18, by being selected to represent schools across America in administering the National Assessment of Educational Progress to 8th grade students. Habit 6 – Student attendance is a SYNERGIZING effort. Please remember that Transportation Notes must be turned in to the homeroom teacher first thing each day. If issues arise during the day, you may send in a note bycalling 477-3260, faxing 477-6796, or by emailing Amy Peterson. Habit 7 – All students are invited to SHARPEN THE SAW after school every Monday through Thursday at Grizzlies Beyond the Bell. Each day begins with a snack, homework help from our teachers, 25 clubs to choose from, and transportation is provided. All students welcome! Respectfully, Matt Mercer Principal SCMS
