To: All SCMS Stakeholders
We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Students can BE PROACTIVE by turning in all assignments. 2nd quarter report cards will be sent home on January 11. A very useful tool for parents is the Infinite Campus App; where you can check grades and receive push notifications daily. Habit 2 – Spencer County Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO) will BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND at their first meeting of 2016 on January 11th at 6:30 at the school. All parents are encouraged to come and participate in planning and preparation of schoolwide events for our students. Habit 3 – Spencer Middle 6th grader Valerie Pucko, is PUTTING FIRST THINGS FIRST by sponsoring a schoolwide book drive. Valerie is collecting books and checking them for grade level accuracy prior to redistributing them to kids in Spencer County. Valerie exemplifies student leadership! Habit 4 – SCMS band is THINKING WIN-WIN by competing in All-District band competition this weekend at Martha Layne Collins High School. Good luck to all our participating students. Habit 5 – Vonda Martin and the Family Resource Center will be SEEKING FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD by contacting parents to offer grief counseling for those in need. If you are interested in getting your child help, please email: [email protected]. Habit 6 – Yesterday during District Professional Development teachers analyzed student MAP data, were trained to implement Chromebooks into the classroom, and SYNERGIZED with Spencer County High School to plan for the future in Science and Social Studies. Habit 7 – All students are encouraged to SHARPEN THE SAW at Grizzlies Beyond the Bell, starting today. Ms. Karen Leff’s program offers homework help and over twenty clubs. Last semester we averaged 115 students daily. Transportation is provided to four locations at approx. 5:30pm daily. Respectfully, Matt Mercer Principal SCMS
