To: All SCMS Stakeholders
We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Parents, please remind all students to BE PROACTIVE in turning in daily assignments, as we have only 14 school days until the end of Semester 1. December 19, 2014, will end the 2nd nine weeks. You may access Infinite Campus online to check grades daily. Habit 2 – Ms. Shipley and the Grizzly choir BEGAN WITH THE END IN MIND; practicing all semester for their upcoming December 12th, concert. Please come out and support this fine program – doors open at 6pm, as the event begins at 6:30. Habit 3 – Spencer County Middle School Cheer, literally PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST, as they brought home the Regional Championship trophy to Taylorsville!!!!! Please come out and support these girls as they advance to the State Competition at Eastern Kentucky University, on January 10th. Habit 4 – SCMS 7th grader Hunter Wethington was THINKING WIN-WIN over Thanksgiving Break, traveling to Charlotte, NC, to compete in the Footlocker National Cross Country Meet. We are so proud to announce that Hunter placed 6th overall and was named to the South All Conference Team! Habit 5 – Spencer Middle will SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD from December 8th - 19th, as we MAP assess all students to check for mid-year academic growth. Please urge your son/daughter to be present at school and give a great effort! Habit 6 – The Spencer Magnet caught us SYNERGIZING on November 19th; publishing a piece on school-wide writing within professional learning communities. All are welcome for a fun night of food, activities, live auctioneer, crafts, indoor yard sale, coffee shop, and games for all ages. Activities begin at 2:30, so students can stay at school! Event tickets on pre-sale now (See accompanying WInterfest flyer). Respectfully, Matt Mercer Principal SCMS
