To: All SCMS Stakeholders
We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Parents can BE PROACTIVE and assure safety for all students by remaining in the car rider line when picking up and dropping off students. No one is permitted in the bus parking area. Habit 2 – Parents can BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND with the free Infinite Campus App, which sends push notifications every time a teacher enters a grade for your son or daughter. Follow the four simple steps seen here: http://publicschools.spencercounty.ky.gov/parents/icportal/. For more information email [email protected]. Habit 3 – PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST, Sept. 14 is Fall picture day, every child will need to prepay, more info to come! Grizzly Beyond the Bell begins August 28th. Students can stay after school weekly M-Th 2:30 to 5:30. Food, Homework Help, Fun Clubs & Transportation included. Habit 4 –Just a friendly reminder to 6th grade families from Nurse Dippel, THINK WIN-WIN If you haven’t done so yet, please send in your students Current and Compliant Immunization Certificate and 6th grade Physical (a sports Physical does NOT meet this requirement). Habit 5 – SCMS is SEEKING FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD on August 21, 2017. SCMS will be in the path of a solar eclipse. This event is being called “The Great American Solar Eclipse,” because it is the first time since 1918 a solar eclipse will be visible on a path across the entire continental United States. We will be live streaming this in it’s entirety to ALL students in their 7th period classroom via https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/eclipse-live-stream . This will ENSURE student safety all the while allowing our enrollment of 700 to view this rare eclipse at it’s peak time of 2:29pm. In addition, we will be providing educational opportunities (simulations, pin-hole camera’s, etc.) inside and outside of the classroom prior to and after the eclipse window. Parents that would like to view this event with their child outside during the eclipse can write a parent note to make it an excused sign out. The district MAY push back dismissal times 15-20 minutes on Monday for buses and student drivers only. For more information please contact me at [email protected] . Habit 6 – We had a great first week of SYNERGY at SCMS. Kudos to 8th grade girls basketball for defeating OKH for the first time in school history. 7th grade also won! Come out this week and support Grizzly Athletics: Wednesday - Girls Basketball vs OKH, and Thursday - Lady Grizzly Basketball vs St. Gregory & SCMS Football vs. Shelby East. Habit 7 – Students will be able to SHARPEN THE SAW at the SCMS “Back to School Luau”, August 25 from 6:30-8:30. Grizzly Cheerleaders and Coach Amanda Grubb, have a fun evening planned for all students’ grades 6-8. It will be an exciting night with; Kona Ice – Hawaiian Shaved Ice, Pig Roast, Music and Dancing, Hula Contest, Limbo Contest, and Photo Booth.
