To: All SCMS Stakeholders
We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Parents can BE PROACTIVE and assure safety for all students by remaining in the car rider line when picking up and dropping off students. No one is permitted in the teacher/bus parking areas. Support SCMS and get some school spirit gear at https://t.co/ZsZ7mcumsI Habit 2 – Parents can BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND with the free Infinite Campus App, which sends push notifications every time a teacher enters a grade for your son or daughter. Follow the four simple steps seen here: http://publicschools.spencercounty.ky.gov/parents/icportal/. For more information email [email protected]. Habit 3 – PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST, as next Tuesday (August 23) is fall picture day, every child will receive proofs; no prepay! Grizzly Beyond the Bell begins August 29th. Students can stay after school weekly M-Th 2:30 to 5:30. Food, Homework Help, Fun Clubs & Transportation included. Habit 4 –Just a friendly reminder to 6th grade families from Nurse Dippel, THINK WIN-WIN If you haven’t done so yet, please send in your students Current and Compliant Immunization Certificate and 6th grade Physical (a sports Physical does NOT meet this requirement). Habit 5 – SCMS is SEEKING FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD by accepting Jr. Beta Club applications - deadline August 19th. Also, auditions for the Middle School/High School drama production of Dracula will be Aug. 18th afterschool till 5:30. Actor and tech packets are available in the office and from Ms. Steege. Habit 6 – We had a great first week of SYNERGY at SCMS. Congratulations, to the Lady Bballers on an undefeated 5-0 start to their season: beating Elkhorn & winning the Berea Invitational over the weekend (Lincoln County, Farristown, Lexington Catholic (semi’s) & Powell County in the finals). Habit 7 – Students will be able to SHARPEN THE SAW at the SCMS “Back to School Luau” this Friday from 6:30-8:30. President Amanda Grubb, and the PTSO have a fun evening planned for all students’ grades 6-8. It will be an exciting night with; Kona Ice – Hawaiian Shaved Ice, Pig Roast, Music and Dancing, Hula Contest, Limbo Contest, and Photo Booth. Attached is a permission form. Respectfully, Matt Mercer Principal SCMS
