To: All SCMS Stakeholders
We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Students can BE PROACTIVE by turning assignments timely as we only have 14 days until Christmas. 2nd quarter Mid-term reports were sent home on November 24th. A very useful tool for parents is the Infinite Campus App; where you can check grades and receive push notifications daily. Habit 2 – On Dec. 7th at 6pm we will BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND by recognizing our MS Distinguished Students at SCHS. Please come out and support our students who scored Distinguished in any subject on last spring’s KPREP Assessment. Habit 3 – PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST and Join us for some holiday shopping at the Scholastic Bookfair's VIP Opening on Saturday, Dec. 12th! The library will be teaming up with both the art and drama departments for a fun night of shopping, dinner, and a show; more information about discounts and incentives to come! The Bookfair will be open to students during the school day December 14-18. Habit 4 – This Wednesday we will be THINKING WIN-WIN at our annual Jr. Beta Club inauguration, recognizing: Karlie Acker, Jacob Armstrong, Kelly Baird, Kylie Barron, Mckenzie Bell, Amber Case, Samuel Cooper, Josh Dunkleberger, Aaliyah Ebertshauser, Joe Goodlett, Madison Goodlett, Maria Hawley, Jaynie Heckert, Elisabeth Huckleberry, Kelsey Lear, Destiny McDonald, Tyler Moehrke, Douglas Mouser, Taylor Nation, Diamond Nelson, Makayla Priddy, Ashlyn Propheter, Jack Reynolds, Allie Roberts, Emily Sibert, Hallie Smith, Courtney Spaulding, Connor Strothman, Abby Taylor, Seth Thompson, Abby Turner, Kaylee Waldridge, & Abby Wernert. Habit 5 – After Thanksgiving we will SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD by administering the Winter MAP assessment to all students. This allows us to make individualized decisions for student success. In the FALL SCMS outperformed the national average in 9 of 10 areas. Habit 6 – The library media center would like to SYNERGIZE with the Spencer County community by sponsoring The Great Bedtime Story Pajama Drive. We will be collecting new pajama sets (top and bottom) in all sizes (newborn to adult) along with new or gently used books to give to children in need. Donations can be made through December 18th in the library! Habit 7 – Everyone is encouraged to come out and SHARPEN THE SAW on Dec. 4th at our second annual Winterfest at SCMS. Games for children of all ages, arts, crafts, food, Grizzly Café, silent auction, and teacher/student dodgeball competitions. All proceeds goes towards our “Chromebooks for Kids” initiative. If you can donate items, please contact [email protected]. Respectfully, Matt Mercer Principal SCMS
