To: All SCMS Stakeholders
We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Parents, please remind all students to BE PROACTIVE in turning in daily assignments, as mid-term reports were sent home on November 21, 2014. You may access Infinite Campus online to check grades daily. Habit 2 – Please urge your child to BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND; after returning from Thanksgiving break, we will have only fifteen school days until the 2nd nine weeks ends. Semester Exams will be administered on the last day for students on December 19th. Prepare now! Habit 3 – Spencer County Middle School Cheer, literally PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST yesterday, as they brought home the Regional Championship trophy to Taylorsville!!!!! Please come out and support these girls as they advance to the State Competition at Eastern Kentucky University, on January 10th. Habit 4 – Grizzly students, parents and teachers were THINKING WIN-WIN this past Thursday! 674 of our 691 students were present. We tell students they must be present to learn, bravo to each of the more than 97% that was in attendance. When students are in school, it’s a win-win! Habit 5 – It’s always time to SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD! This Tuesday we will be administering “Learning Checks” to all grades to measure the amount of content students have learned up to this point in their classes. Please do not miss this rather important day! Habit 6 – I pray that everyone has the opportunity to SYNERGIZE with family and friends over Thanksgiving, as I plan to do myself. I would like say THANKS to each of you for GIVING us the opportunity to make a difference in your child’s life. We’re truly blessed to do what we do! Habit 7 – Please mark December 5th on your calendar as an evening to SHARPEN THE SAW at SCMS’ First Annual Winterfest (Fall festival in December). All are welcome for a fun night of food, activities, live auctioneer, crafts, indoor yard sale, coffee shop, and games for all ages. Activities begin at 2:30, so students can stay at school! Event tickets on pre-sale now (See accompanying WInterfest flyer). Respectfully, Matt Mercer Principal SCMS
