To: All SCMS Stakeholders
We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Students can BE PROACTIVE by turning assignments timely as our 2nd nine weeks just began. 2nd quarter Mid-term reports will be sent home on November 24th. A very useful tool for parents is the Infinite Campus App; where you can check grades and receive push notifications daily. Habit 2 – If your daughter is interested in playing volleyball for SCMS this season, it’s time to BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND; Coach Reno is having 6th grade tryouts tomorrow from 3-5 and 7th/8th grade tryouts will be Tuesday from 3-5. Good luck and Go Grizzlies! Habit 3 – Ms. Steege and Advanced Band students will PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST tomorrow as they perform “Theatre for Social Change” for the entire school. 6th grade will be 4th period, 7th grade will be 6th period, and 8th grade will be during 5th period. Habit 4 – Grizzly band was THINKING WIN-WIN this weekend. SCMS band students performed in the Tristate Honors Competition at Morehead State University. Ms. Stampfer and crew also showcased their talents by performing for the public Saturday night. Habit 5 – After Thanksgiving we will SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD by administering the Winter MAP assessment to all students. This allows us to make individualized decisions for student success. In the FALL SCMS outperformed the national average in 9 of 10 areas. Habit 6 – Vonda Martin and Family Resource are SYNERGIZING with leaders in the community for our 2nd Annual Leadership Luncheon this Tuesday. This year’s keynote speaker will be the first and only female Governor of the state of KY, Ms. Martha Layne Collins. Thanks to Ms. Collins, along with all our leaders who gather each year at this time to discuss leadership with our SCMS students. Habit 7 – Everyone is encouraged to come out and SHARPEN THE SAW on Dec. 4th at our second annual Winterfest at SCMS. Games for children of all ages, arts, crafts, food, Grizzly Café, silent auction, and teacher/student dodgeball competitions. All proceeds goes towards our “Chromebooks for Kids” initiative. If you can donate items, please contact [email protected]. Respectfully, Matt Mercer Principal SCMS
