To: All SCMS Stakeholders
We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Students can BE PROACTIVE by turning assignments timely as our 2nd nine weeks just began. 2nd quarter Mid-term reports will be sent home on November 24th. A very useful tool for parents is the Infinite Campus App; where you can check grades and receive push notifications daily. Habit 2 – Vonda Martin and Family Resource have BEGAN WITH THE END IN MIND; organizing our 2nd Annual Leadership Luncheon. This year’s keynote speaker will be the first and only female Governor of the state of KY, Ms. Martha Layne Collins. Thanks to Ms. Collins, along with several other community leaders who gather each year at this time to discuss leadership with our SCMS students. Habit 3 – The following students have PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST and were recognized as Grizzly Heroes: Julie Kyser, Audrey Hickerson, Sierra Knapper, Seth Nolan, and Dylan Nation. Last week’s Paw on the Back goes to Ms. Cindy Johnson for stepping up in a time of need. Habit 4 – The entire school was THINKING WIN-WIN recently for our annual Veteran’s Day Pancake Breakfast. Over 150 Veteran’s and spouses were recognized during a very uplifting yet emotional ceremony attended by all students. Thanks to Ms. Mcgaughey and Ms. Krause for turning this vision into a reality. Most importantly we thank the men and women who have fought for our freedom! Habit 5 – Our teachers are helping other school districts SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD as a host of surrounding schools begin to visit SCMS this week to learn about the amazing things that make us Distinguished in KY. Grant County MS will attend this Wednesday to watch our students and teachers in action as they hope to learn how we teach writing school-wide. Habit 6 – Once again SCMS will be SYNERGIZING with SCHS to provide this year’s Drama Department winter production, “Best Christmas Pageant” play. Elementary students from SCES and TES will watch on Dec. 10th and the community is invited to attend on Dec. 12 & 13. Habit 7 – Everyone is encouraged to come out and SHARPEN THE SAW on Dec. 4th at our second annual Winterfest at SCMS. Games for children of all ages, arts, crafts, food, Grizzly Café, silent auction, and teacher/student dodgeball competitions. All proceeds goes towards our “Chromebooks for Kids” initiative. If you can donate items, please contact [email protected]. Respectfully, Matt Mercer Principal SCMS
