To: All SCMS Stakeholders
We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Parents, please remind all students to BE PROACTIVE in turning in daily assignments, as mid-term reports will be sent home on November 18, 2014. You may access Infinite Campus online to check grades daily. Habit 2 – Spencer County Schools elects to BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND by progress monitoring student’s with NWEA’s MAP Assessment three times per year (Fall, Winter, Spring). We are very excited to announce that our Fall MAP Assessment shows our students scoring ABOVE THE NATIONAL AVERAGE IN 7 of 10 tested areas; up from 1 of 10, last Fall. Great job to ALL STUDENTS!!! Habit 3 – SCMS PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST Friday, recognizing Grizzly Heroes: Jeremiah Potter, Moni McCoy, Chandani McKenna-Vega, Matt Drury, and Jenna Newton. The SC BOE recognized Honor’s Choir students: Haylee Cox, Brittney Levesque, Trinity Marshall, Maisah Johnson, Mckenzie Woods, Courtney Spaulding, Taylor Nation, Paige Tessier, Brianna Mena. Great Job students! Habit 4 – November 11, is Veteran’s Day at SCMS; we will be THINKING WIN-WIN as we honor those that have risked it all for freedom’s sake! The day will begin with our annual pancake breakfast for Veteran’s in the Grizzly Café. For more information: [email protected] Habit 5 – In our never ending pursuit of educational excellence, we SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD by allowing students of every teacher to participate in a “Student Voice” survey; to gain valuable feedback from “their” perspective on teaching and learning at SCMS. Habit 6 – SCMS and SCHS Drama Departments have SYNERGIZED to produce Alice in Wonderland! We have close to 100 students working on this production! Please come support the amazing work of these students this Thursday, November 13th at 7pm! Habit 7 – Please mark December 5th on your calendar as an evening to SHARPEN THE SAW at SCMS’ First Annual Winterfest (Fall festival in December). All are welcome for a fun night of food, activities, auctions, crafts, indoor yard sale, and games for all ages. More info to come! Respectfully, Matt Mercer Principal SCMS
