To: All SCMS Stakeholders
We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Students can BE PROACTIVE by turning assignments timely as our 2nd nine weeks just began. 2nd quarter Mid-term reports will be sent home on November 24th. A very useful tool for parents is the Infinite Campus App; where you can check grades and receive push notifications daily. Habit 2 – Everyone can BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND, by ordering SCMS Spirit Gear now, so you’ll have it for the future. All proceeds go to the SCMS PTSO; attached is an order form. Habit 3 – The following students have PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST and were recognized as Grizzly Heroes: Zachary Richnor, Kaylee Waldridge, Maria Hawley, Kylie Barron, Yessenia Verastegui. Last week’s Paw on the Back goes to Ms. Phelps for educating others on tech. for the classroom. Habit 4 – Friday, the entire school was THINKING WIN-WIN for our annual Academic Pep Rally featuring J.D. Shelburne. The Spencer Magnet was here to Students that scored Proficient, Distinguished, & those that showed growth were recognized, w/ ALL Distinguished students meeting JD backstage. Thanks to our sponsors: McDonald’s, Shelbyville Family Center, Fernbowl & Kingpin. Habit 5 – Grizzly teachers are SEEKING FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD by participating in job-embedded professional development on the Seven Thinking Strategies that help students learn most. This month’s strategy is “Schema” and was modeled by Ms. Kennedy. For more information on this initiative, click here: http://www.spencer.kyschools.us/2/Content2/438 Habit 6 – Once again SCMS will be SYNERGIZING with local veterans in hosting our 3rd annual "Pancakes for Patriots" pancake breakfast on Wednesday, November 11th. This community event has grown because of your hard work, donations, and help! As always we depend on donations. If you would be willing to donate items or your time during our breakfast we would greatly appreciate it. You can find our list of needs @ http://www.perfectpotluck.com/meals.php?t=NDXT0830&v=1ca6f99a5b. Habit 7 – Congrats to the following students who have been SHARPENING THE SAW by reading their favorite book, which has them atop the Accelerated Reader leaderboard in the media center: 5th place – Abby Watts, 4th place – Emily McGill, 3rd place – Cameron Emmons, 2nd place – Lily Weibel, and in 1st place – Erika Montgomery. Respectfully, Matt Mercer Principal SCMS
