To: All SCMS Stakeholders
We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – We would like to remind all driver’s to please BE PROACTIVE and utilize the parent pickup/drop-off traffic line. It is prohibited for any drop-offs to occur in the middle of the lot. Thank you, as this is to ensure student safety. Habit 2 – Grizzly Chorus will BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND at tomorrow’s Talent Show, beginning at 6pm. Come out and watch, as students showcase their skills and chase their dreams! Habit 3 – SCMS PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST Friday, with an Academic Pep Rally to recognize hundreds of students who excelled in numerous areas such as: KPREP Proficient/Distinguished, EXPLORE Benchmarks, Academic Team, Duke Tip, and many others. The day was capped off with a surprise performance by local County Musical Artist JD Shelburne. Habit 4 – November 11, is Veteran’s Day at SCMS; we will be THINKING WIN-WIN as we honor those that have risked it all for freedom’s sake! The day will begin with our annual pancake breakfast for Veteran’s in the Grizzly Café. For more information: [email protected] Habit 5 – All participating students in ‘Grizzly’s Beyond the Bell’ can SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD on a real-world educational adventure to the Newport Aquarium on November 4th. Please contact [email protected] for more details. Habit 6 – SCMS and SCHS have SYNERGIZED to produce Spencer County’s first ever State Qualifying Cross Country Team. This week’s spotlight is on middle school student-athlete Hunter Wethington; wish Hunter luck this week as he prepares to run at the High School State Cross Country Meet in Lexington, on November 8th. Congrats Hunter, and thanks for representing SCMS well! Habit 7 – Please mark December 5th on your calendar as an evening to SHARPEN THE SAW at SCMS’ First Annual Winterfest (Fall festival in December). All are welcome for a fun night of food, activities, auctions, crafts, indoor yard sale, and games for all ages. More info to come! Respectfully, Matt Mercer Principal SCMS
