To: All SCMS Stakeholders
We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Social media is a great way to BE PROACTIVE and stay current on SCMS happenings. We invite everyone to visit our PTSO Facebook book page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Spencer-County-Middle-School/429909340457044, and you may also follow me on twitter at Follow Me! Habit 2 – This week is Red Ribbon themed week at SCMS; Tuesday is BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND day (dress in your favorite college gear), Wednesday is Put 1st Things 1st “Mismatch Day”, Thursday is Think Win-Win “Twin Day” (dress like someone else), and Friday is “Be the Leader in You Day” (dress for success semi-formal). Habit 3 – SCMS PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST when recognizing August and September “Grizzly Heroes”: Makala Adkins, Jasmine Jenkins, Diamond Nelson, Moni McCoy, Chloe King, Felicity McDonald, Chelsea Bruner, Connor Strothman, Dakota Hoskins, Seth Caudill, Daniel Jett, Will Moon, Brent Muddell, Tristin Lewis, Malik Taylor, Dalton King. Congrats to all these superb students! Habit 4 – The Spencer County School District is THINKING WIN-WIN in recognizing all Proficient and Distinguished students at SCHS on Dec. 4. These students have catapulted Spencer Co. Schools to “High Proficient” status; the highest state assessment scores in school district history! Habit 5 – All participating students in ‘Grizzly’s Beyond the Bell’ can SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD on a real-world educational adventure to the Newport Aquarium on November 4th. Please contact Karen Leff for details. Habit 6 – The drama department at SCMS plans to SYNERGIZE with SCES and TES, with their competition performance of “Number the Stars” for elementary students on November 19 & 20. Habit 7 – Please mark December 5th on your calendar as an evening to SHARPEN THE SAW at SCMS’ First Annual Winterfest (Fall festival in December). All are welcome for a fun night of food, activities, auctions, crafts, indoor yard sale, and games for all ages. More info to come! Respectfully, Matt Mercer Principal SCMS
