We are now living The Leader in Me’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. To practice what we teach, my weekly correspondence follows the 7 Habits theme: Habit 1 – Students can BE PROACTIVE by turning assignments timely as our 2nd nine weeks just began. 1st quarter Report Cards were sent home on October 15. A very useful tool for parents is the Infinite Campus App; where you can check grades and receive push notifications daily. Habit 2 – Everyone can BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND, by ordering SCMS Spirit Gear now, so you’ll have it for that special event in the future. All proceeds go to the SCMS PTSO. Attached is an order form, due back by Nov. 10. Habit 3 – The following students have PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST and were recognized as ERQ Leaders of the Week: Lilly Weibel, Brianna Mena, & Jeremiah Wafford. This week’s Paw on the Back goes to Ms. Stephanie Phelps for educating colleagues on time-consuming technology for the classroom. Habit 4 – School nurse Kathy Dippel is THINKING WIN-WIN, meeting with 7th & 8th grade girls, and sending information home to parents. All 7th grade girls will receive information regarding Health & Puberty Education. This week she will be speaking to all 8th grade girls regarding the “Get Your Pink On” initiative. Habit 5 – On Thursday, we’ll be SEEKING FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD by welcoming the KY Center for School Safety into our building to learn strategies to enhance school safety. This year’s KCSS theme is “I Want to be a School Safety SUPERhero!”. For more info, click here http://www.kycss.org/superpledge/index.php Habit 6 – Our Family Resource Center is SYNERGIZING with the Taylorsville Community Church by accepting applications for the Community Christmas Assistance Program on Monday, Nov. 2nd, 10-2, Tuesday, Nov. 3rd, 4-7, & Thursday, Nov. 5th, 10-2, at the Taylorsville Community Church Fellowship Hall. Call 477-2985 to “adopt” a child and make their Christmas brighter. Habit 7 – Mrs. Gabbard, the SCMS librarian, is SHARPENING THE SAW with all 6th graders during 5th period reading classes this week. Students enjoy listening to scary stories and participating in spooky team building activities together. Respectfully, Matt Mercer Principal SCMS
